Oh my, oh my. Over the years I’ve seen this happen all the time. When someone can’t be taken down by facts, and these people on top of it all don’t bow down for the legalized fools, the fools try to play smart. Even though the problems started by the fact they weren’t smart at all.
How many times do we have to see incompetent clever Dicks try to go for the man instead of the ball? Here we have a rocket-scientist being angry at Simon because he closed a thread of insanity, and this utter insanity had been going on for ever and ever, and the same genius starts up another thread exactly as narrow-minded and stinking full of envy as the first one.
Over the years this is the same story. I’ve seen this happen all the time. On Jesus Witnesses, on Philia – every where. The fact that people like JanH and Allan have the energy to explain the same things to new generations of geniuses is fantastic. Because facts are the same arguments – or rather unsubstantiated declarations – are being promoted over and over.
When someone, like JanH or Allan, doesn’t have the energy to explain everything in detail, and these people refuse to divide between facts and superstition – between what they BELIEVE and what is proven facts, the whole thing becomes rather silly.
So, we do get people like teejay, a clown believeing he’s something really big, saying: “His name was The Just and his trusted steed was named Thunder”.
Absoulutely fantastic! And then this statement:

How many times will we see dense, homemade silliness, repeated for ever and ever by someone believeing he’s really smart? How often will this idiotic performance be repeated?
I guess the answer to the question is this:
Until the sheepheads have become smarter. When they have learned the difference between superstitions and facts – and climed down from their pedestal.
And for some people that will never happen.

AF and JanH have given so much to people over the years. The scholarship,the work,and yes love. I think it takes some real love to take these verbal beatings and stick around doing what they do.
It's a shame that some dont stand back and take the time to see all their work. And they've helped countless people.

It's interesting watching the rise of certain contingents on this forum. The contingents are not designed, but people just naturally seem to fall into them.
We have the usual Braindead Watchtower Apologists Contingent, who need no further description.
We also have the Braindead Fundy Apologists Contingent (thankfully poorly represented on this forum), who need no further description.
We have the Seinfeld Contingent (a show of nothing) who type reams of words that say about as much as those entertaining computer-generated ditties you post. This can be further broken down into the Obvious Bullshit Seinfeld Contingent (where the words are so obviously nonsensical that even someone on Fredhall's level can see it) and the Watchtower Bullshit Seinfeld Contingent (where the words seem to make sense as you read them but when you get to the end you have no idea what the point was). People in this contingent rarely if ever manage to write something of substance.
Then we have the unclassifiable but reasonable posters, who can and do get involved in all sorts of discussions. They can be deadly serious when they want, and can argue a point cogently so that only the BWAC , BFAC and Seinfeld Contingents can't understand. They can be funny when they want, kind when they want, and they can be deadly when they want. What distinguishes them is their range of abilities, quite in contrast with the One Trick Ponies of the Named Contingents.
An old saw says that small minds are concerned only with individuals, that medium minds expand this to people in general, and that great minds expand this to issues of the world. That is certainly observable in a forum like this.
Your concerns show what kind of person you are. You, Kent, are a true Rennaissance Man. Now let's see some Trockenbernauslese!

Your points are well taken. There are many here, including yourself, who have spent enormous amounts of time researching, writing, publishing, debating, and patiently debating with others using logic and reason. Many respond in kind with ad hominems, strawmen, and other such poor tactics. The point is not what point of view one has, but rather how those views are defended and the unwillingness to change one's views even in light of mountains of evidence to the contrary.

The point is not to take oneself so damned seriously. There is enough people around that seem to think the big idea is to win a debate. The “victory” of winning debates is the goal in itself!
Nobody really care what I or anyone else “believe” about this or that. The important thing is what can be proven – what facts actually say. When there is “mountains of evidence to the contrary”, only morons keep on rambling. Maybe they feel it’s important to prove they can win a debate – but they only win because:
1) Intelligent people don’t give a damn
2) They BELIEVE they are winning
3) Their fan club is filled with dim-wits
I know perfectly well that people just coming out of the Borg do have their own opinions. I do know they hurt, and I do know they’re world champions – some of them.
I also know some of these assholes – yes, ASSHOLES – refuse to open their eyes, refuse to listen to evidence, refuse to accept their just MIGHT be one or two persons in the world that just MIGHT know a little something they don’t!
I have laughed myself silly more than once of the American National Sport – getting offended. It’s OK to kill people, but you can’t say fuck. As a matter of fact, these idiots are talking about “NEAR MISS” when it’s nearly an accident! A NEAR MISS IS A HIT, damn it! That’s an accident!
So, when someone is hurting, or is feeling a bit better – the way to get even for all the years with being nobody in the congregation is being SOMEBODY! How doesn’t matter – the point is being SOMEBODY! Even if it means to prove to the world they’re sheer shit-heads!
Oh, well. I guess this will keep on for ever. New generations of assholes will keep on coming out of the Tower – and some will become human beings after a while. Some will teach how to relate to other humans by communicating with them. By trying to understand what people are actually saying – not what WORDS they use.
Some of these no-brains will try to behave like they do online in the REAL WORLD – and get their faces smashed. Fact is, hiding behind a screen-name is “safe” if you wanna be an asshole. Try the same in real life – and the lesson comes fast as Hell!

I agree none of us should take ourselves too seriously. I respect those who have the good sense and the ability to laugh at themselves. I've cerainly made an ass out of myself often enough. Debate is a tool to learning, not as you say an end unto itself.

ROTFLMAO! Yeah, I have to laugh as well. For the most part, we're far, far too uptight about all sorts of things. It's a wonder sometimes we're able to shit. Of course, it's near impossible to hold a point of view without offending someone. Another example from our prudish culture: you can't watch two people express love for one another sexually, but it's perfectly o.k. to be barraged daily with bloody scenes of violence, war, agression, and hate.
Frankly, I enjoy your straight shooting attitude and posts. Keep it up!
As Tina mentioned, those like Alan, JanH, Farkel, yourself and others who hold the hands of ignorants and spoon feed them information and critical thinking abilities are demonstrating love for their fellow man. Why else spend so much of their precious time and effort on complete strangers. They have absolutely no obligation to do such things. They could far more easily research on their own, learn what they need, grow from the new discoveries and go merrily upon their way.

But how on earth do many of these know, myself included whether one is a wise or foolish wo/man?
In some contexts I wish there was maybe less heated debate and more of exploring more simple means of communication and understanding, sorting through the ontological insecurities and further progressions being accomplished.
Same time, these people psychologically are here, there and everywhere and need respect and much empathy for their present situations.
If there is anything I would like to thank the one or two boards I belong to, their owners, moderators and client users is the realization that I needn't make everything so un-nessarsarily difficult for myself to understand a more simple truth in life.
Looking at what, where weve all collectively and individually I think many deserve a 'medal' for their continued enabling assistance. My hat goes off to them.

I just read the last half of teejay's epilogue ... that's my brain-box drained for today .. I don't know why you blokes put yourselves through all that crap for the lack of common curtesy. I'm comming to know an internet 'tar baby' when I see it and POQ. (I think this and bruised egos are the reasons some of those I thought of as 'the big boys' like Lee Elder, Cygnus, Gedanken, Randy Watters and co. have "called me out" and ran away after my one reply - very rude and cowardly bad form which I will carry a note of for a long time. Perhaps they saw me as a tar baby, perhaps my replies were just too devistating for their wounded egos to endure another blow and they too analy retentive and hung up on percieved hiracy to back track and admit error. I don't really give a shit but it confused this little black duck for a while and all such goons remain mentally noted in my shame file.

PS: Kent, Alan, I love you guys but don't relish you putting folk in little boxes and neatly tying 'em all up with string .. you're probably right about your groupings Alan but that view tends to deny the personal dignity that comes from recognition of intelligence in all it's various forms, warts trolls and all.
