Just a little tid bit that probably is more fluff than stuff.

When I attend an elders school in Escondito,,CA I think it was maybe 1992 (r maybe it was later in central CA not sure of that detail) Samuel Herd (then a DO) and Merlton Campbell (Sevice dept.) conducted the school. Anyway this is what SH said about service meeting parts:

Paraphrase: "No meetings parts should go over time on the service meeting,,it don't matter "who" is giving the parts the meeting should never go over time,,, even if,,, a member of the "Governing Body" is giving the last part they should alway end on time.

He said that on Saturday, and on Sunday he made a public apology with retraction for that statement. He explained to us at the school,, that after MC talked to him privately he stood corrected, and said,,"It OK for a Governing Body member to go over time any time he see the need and nobody has authority to stop him because he was a member of the GB......

One thing for sure is that there is no such thing as time limits in the bible . It seems people just talked until they ran out of things to say. Meetings were not just about public talks but about associating with other members . IMO .

Just another example of how the governing body is viewed from the other anointed ones and the rank and file JWs. Brings to mind Jesus's words of "..not lording it over...you are all brothers whereas one is your master..."

Sam Herd previously served our district in New Hampshire just prior to when I left the Org. Although an engaging speaker, he would not get involved with an issue that involved an obviously corrupt CO. I always thought that Sam was weak and unwilling to get involved in matters because they were too difficult. Just hearing his name brings back a lot of bad memories.

da gb makes da rules and dey can damn well breaks dem

really, this shouldn't be a problem for them to do go overtime.....its their organization, they can do whatever they want...

I remember glen howe at canada bethel going overtime as much as he bloody well wanted to when it was his turn for morning worship comments (normally only 1 minute if I remember correctly), and no one would stop him in the slightest.....ahhhh membership (at the top of canada's jw legal team) has its privileges.....

Good one Blue......I remember the elder's schools demanding we NOT EVER go overtime (which was what I preached for yrs.) and that next week, every GB member went overtime either on their talks or their long-winded prayers......HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if,,, a member of the "Governing Body" is giving the last part they should alway end on time.

    Baloney!

I well remember an assembly and the one and only Freedie Franz gave a talk. He was getting quite old back then and two brothers had to come to the podium and assist off.( basically they told him his time was waaaay up) he must have went over time by 5-10 minutes before they came on the platform. You just don't wave your hand behind the curtain at Fred franz to tell him his time is up.
