Governing Blunders Part II - Women and Cranial Capacity.

While I find the remarks stupid and archaic, I do have a question.

Why are women more spiritual than men? It goes back to biblical time even...Women played a central role in christianity (first to the tomb, showing faith in jesus power, etc).

Also, churches as well as the kingdom halls are mainly women. In fact the women I dare say are the life-blood of most congregations both jw and others.

Do you think it is because women are caretakers and child-rearers? Men are typically the "providers" and are focused on the financial aspects and women (although many work outside the home) are focused on the spiritual matters?

This has my mind churning. Thanks for the post Hillary_Step and I apologize for getting a little off topic.

    Bandersnatch,

Here's the second half of Harry's "Women know your place sketch":

Narrator: Look at the effect of education on a man and a woman's mind. Education passes into the mind of a man - see
how the information is evenly and
    tidily stored?

[We then see a cut-away diagram of a woman's head. The information "rains"
into it as before, but stops about a quarter of the way up...]

Narrator: Now see the same thing on a woman. At first, we see a similar result. But now look - still at a reasonably
low level of education, her brain suddenly
    overloads...

[The "rain" is replaced by a frantic squiggle, and klaxons start hooting...]

Narrator: She cannot take in complicated information. She becomes frantically and absurdly deranged.

[We then see four sad cases dressed in hospital gowns. Three of the aged
women are fat, the fourth rakish. All four have wildly tousled hair and look
completely vacant, staring directly at the camera]

Narrator: Look at these venomous harridans... they went to university. Hard to
believe they're all under twenty-five. Yes, over-education leads to ugliness,
    premature aging, and beard growth.

[Cut back to a restart of the dinner-party]

Narrator: Now let's see the proper way...

Husband #2: Good. So, we're all agreed. We should return to the Gold Standard.

Daphne: Oh, I don't know anything about the Gold Standard, I'm afraid - but I do love little kittens. They're so
    soft, and furry.

    [A fawning Husband #1 takes Daphne's hand]

Husband #1: What a delightful thought - you dear, sweet, fragile little thing. I adore you.

Narrator: Women - know your limits. In thought, be plain and simple - and

    ...Englishman.

Implicit in these findings is that man is advantaged by a greater brain size...women must learn the art of 'eternal aquiescence' and 'deep altruism' in dealing with their husbands if they want to find happiness".

Since when did the JW org start valuing intelligence as a prerequisite for "spiritual privileges" or leadership positions in the hierarchy? Have they begun to administer intelligence tests when considering candidates for elderhood?

JWs have always struck me as being anti-intellectual. As I recall, they always went off on the "not many wise in a worldly way were chosen" observation in I Corinthians to essentially brag that JW-dom appealed to the ignorant and that they liked it that way. (I know that education and intelligence are not the same thing but there is an obvious connection between the two and in actual practice it appears rather difficult to identify where intelligence ends and education begins and to what degree there is a mutually reinforcing symbiosis at work. It also seems peculiar to me to claim to value intelligence while disparaging its exercise and training.)

If these JW authors thought (think?) that men on average are more intelligent than women and that this qualifies them for headship, then why haven't they considered intelligence as an important prerequisite for congregational headship? And how could they go from whatever they believed about the relative average intelligence of men and women as a group to concluding that this somehow justified a dumb man having headship over a smart woman?

    SS,

    Huh?

My question is, why are women the most active in religion, but so belittled by the men?

The Orgs status, opinion of women have changed since now it is mostly women. It also has changed its opinion of college. Many JW men had reading and thusly the former college the ban was to their advantage. Their wives would often go to college and now make more money than them. When you mix the two a whole new set of rules are trying to be invented as we speak because there are women with degrees that are not allowed to pray or give talks (personally just like military conscription I would trade gender roles to get out of that crap).

What happens when social and scientific proof abandons the watchtower? They get all meta physical. Now it is not that women are not capable, but it is because this is the arrangement by God (which is true but God is a bigot anyway). If your wife has been to college or some how makes more money than you the husband should respect the wife?s wishes. Not that they all do. To compensate the watchtower is now putting pioneering at parity of being an elder to make women feel like they are now missing out. Most people see through this. Since there are only elders and the RF in chain of command and no true clergy I see their point. I have no idea how they are going weasel out of it. That watchtower a few weeks ago "stumbled" many sisters. Some choked while commenting. Because the watchtower accidentally cited a scripture that said women could not speak at the meetings and only talk to there husbands at home. One of our rookie elders wife was pissed. The problem is the Watchtower has built its own concept of church services so what makes sense in there churches like no women priest makes absolutely no sense in the KH system since we don't have priest.

    You asked

Why are women more spiritual than men?

Church going, or following spiritual people doesn't necesarily equate to spirituality. The idea that women are more spiritual than men may be just another societal dogma along w the one hillary brought up. So then, men will suppress their spiritual side to match the stereotype. I'm sure that you wouldn't want to be a party that.

Thus a leading authority on the human body...

No names or other references again! This is REALLY annoying!

Anonymous quotation turns any reference, no matter how authoritative the source might be, into a mere anecdote.

This fits into the purpose of the Watchtower, they do not want the reader to check the sources for accuracy.

The purpose of the Watchtower and Awake articles is to promote Watchtower propaganda, to impart the message the Watchtower wants to impart to the reader. So they only provide the quotes, or partial quotes, that they want to provide, and nothing more.

The "reasoning" that the amount of brain matter directly corresponds to reasoning ability not only speculative, but is just plain wrong! Many factors are involved in intelligence.

I wonder if the Awake! writer really believed what he wrote, or if instead, he was directed to write the article and had not choice.

((( Hillary ))) ( had to get that out of the way, How are you? haven?t spoken to you in so long!!)

I read this earlier and had to walk away. I am not sure why I was so upset by the article. Perhaps I think too much on things such as these and read too much into what I get from an article such at this.

If one thinks deeply IMO on the conations of this ?revelation? by the society of 'eternal acquiescence'. I can think of several things as a child I can blame on this for the hurt of so many.

Is it possible that the sisters in our hall I recall as a child who were beaten continuously were so, because of this revelation? Was this allowed because we were such dim-witted creatures who were in need of divine guidance by their husbands? Because we had no earthly clue as to that which was going on?

And when on of these sisters who needed this (loving, I?m sure) guidance went to the elders for help was she immediately ignored because she was overtly emotional had not thinking capacity and therefore mistook her husbands beating and obviously was wrong and therefore to be ignored? Catch 22!

Is it possible that the 'eternal acquiescence? is possible for the physical abuse and sexual abuse of thousands of women and children. Those who were ignored for years by the loving brothers of the society?

Cassi, excuse me while I get sick to my stomach.

What about the watchtower and their medical myths?Such as stomach ulcers being caused by stress. That was the prevailing belief back when... Then, scientist found out it was in fact caused by a little bug called H-Pyori . A bacteria, and that STRESS had NOTHING to do with it. Countless times the Watchtower would cite that script in Proverbs, "that stress is rottenness to the marrow" and that it caused stomach ulcers . If they are so divine why wasn't that revealed to them?

Hundred's of times the watchtower would say that, 'we only use 10% of our brain' Perhaps they would know from personal experience, but that quote is not true either!

Watchtower sez's 'we only use ten percent of our brains' Danny sez's they would know from personal experience.
