Maybe I hoard things too much?

LOL Simon. 20 years? I have been a bit of a hoarder myself over the years but I'm getting better. Could be that my house is getting too full for it anymore-with a full sized basement !! I throw things out more readily now than in the past but there are still things that I simply cannot part with. At work we have these boxes that our letter sized envelopes come in from the printer and I made a point to limit what I'd save from my each of my daughter's school years to just one of those boxes. That was hard !!

Yep- Call Clean Sweep !! They'll come to your house and kick your hoarding ass !! I soo want them to come to my house. They not only help force you to get rid of things but they re-do 2 rooms in your house while you are doing that !! So you get these two cool new rooms and start from scratch with the "stuff" gone !!

You know you have it bad when you collect the containers that the "stuff" you collect is stored in.

he he ... I wouldn't mind but the ATM receipts are for a bank account that I haven't had for at least 10 years.

I threw out an old Tandy plotter recently as well that I had for my old TRS-80 ... I wasn't able to get the little pens for it

    Simon,

I have a similar disease, but being that much older I have so much more to hoard. I have lockers in three countries with everything from guitars and amps, to collections of glass, invoices. Some have not been looked in for seven years.

But I have to agree with you Simon, you are a right little hoard.

Simon, as inconvenient as it may seem, always keep whatever paperwork you can. I'm just dividing the assets with my ex and going through all sorts of papers. If it were not for a reciept for a dining room set that was purchased by my father in 1986 I may have been forced to let her have it, or pay her half its value. I'm going to lose the value of a business I used to have that I came into the marriage with because I no longer have the records. (I sold it 16 years ago).

Also, my father kept every paper, even liquor store receipts from the early 1960's. (ok, that's extreme). But because of his keeping papers, I have the paperwork to prove that he was a slave labourer in Germany during WW II, and I'll be receiving compensation for that soon.

I also am plagued with the disease of hoarding. You are not alone Simon. Paperwork is my biggest downfall. I keep everything.

I did some thinking about it, and came to the conclusion that it validates my existence. I WAS HERE! or THERE! depending how long ago it was. I have utility bills from 30 years ago, are they antique yet? I also save nuts and bolts. It is very frustrating to know I have "One of those somewhere" but can't find it when I need it. I buy another and when I clean up I find 8 of them.

Last summer I was in purge mode and did very well getting rid of alot of junk. Plan to do the same this year. Wish me luck.

Simon, I am so impressed you have a filing cabinet. I save stuff, too, but it's all on top of my desk!

I'm the opposite - I throw things away and give things away constantly, like a bicycle, exercise bike, clothes dryer, refrigerator, sofas and chairs, tables, beds, pets, toys, clothes, etc.

Drives the kids crazy. They always wish I would at least try to sell these things, or ask a decent price when I do sell them. But once I feel something is "in the way" or needs replacing, out it goes. They sometimes have felt the need to retrieve things from the dumpster.

No big deal, just a habit.

Well, the only realy I have a filing cabinet is so that I can dump the current pile of paper off my desk and start a new one
