Why am I here? Where am I going? Who put us here? Is there a God somewhere?

If you were raised on an island completely isolated from outside influence of man.......would you ask these questions above? Would you even care? If you did care.....would it be as extreem as a person raised around influence from others?

My point in asking is, it's would be intresting to find out from others if what the watchtower said was true. They always told us that man had an inborn desire to worship something. They said even primitive tribes who have never seen people before, set up gods and worshipped them because of a need to worship. Opinions?

well Gumbinson Crusoe assuming you had no other human contact with no notions of science or anything I'm betting stuff would still scare the crap out of you from time to time like hurricanes, meteor showers, eclipses, tidal waves, etc...AND assuming there was any brain functionm going on then some reasons might be assumed for natual events. AND don't think just because this poor bastard is on an island and no able to get a home bible study that Jehovah is gonna spare this one during the Big A!...As a matter of fact this lonely island bound bastard is probably hindering the "good news" being taught "ALL over the earth"...

    Sincerely,

Well, it's a good question, but it's a hard one. I personally think there's an innate sense of spiritual connection with the cosmic wondrousness of the universe blah blah new age blah. But I think religion is a whole other can of worms, and is just about controlling other people. I think that's why it developed in the first place, and I think that's what it's used for now. So, in summary, the JWs were bullshitting as usual. IMHO.

I think there would still be questions - but not necessarily as developed. Who knows?

However, I like the way the Greeks perceived the world. Although they are often disregarded as being polytheists (and they were), it was a different perception of God, and it was logical. They recognized the "god" of the sea -- meaning that you have to respect the power and danger of the sea. The origin, I think, was a healthy fear and respect of nature. If you can't scientifically explain things, then it makes sense to just recognize them as strong forces that must be feared and respected. That is the foundation. From there, you get, "how can we make the forces stop?" ... Perhaps by pleasing them? Offering gifts? The "forces" grow to be perceived as sentient. And it all develops from there.

Those are just my thoughts ...

Valis ,made a good point.......yes, a human would wonder what makes "things" happen and why.

There's a movie "Farewell to the King", about the island of Borneo. They had no concept of a god such as our culture. They just loved life and celebrated it. The way it should be, imho. I think it is possible that there were/are civilizations like this. Was not Hawaii's culture similar? Not sure, maybe one of the Hawaiians onboard will comment. Live and let live, celebrate nature, sounds good to me!

You should watch it, if you haven't already. It made me just wanna go back in time and live there. One of the few flicks I own.
