What did you actually enjoy about JW meetings?

"Sometimes we got to get Popeye's fried chicken after the Sunday meeting. Yea. That was cool.

Oh - and if it ended on time we could also catch the end of "American Top 40" and hear the #1 song for the week!!" We did the EXACT same thing. (Even down to the same named chicken place).

I found myself close to were the rebels in the cong., but after I left the truth, I have close relationships to some very cool people, these are people I would have never met had I stayed in the truth.

    Exactly.

Hmmm, I would have to say walking around the assembly hall and giong outside to check how things were.. Attendants got away with stuff like that.

I'm all up for interracial marriaging but when it seems forced on either side that just ticks my clock. I heard one sister that is marrying a white man say, "I got myself a white man girl!" I was like what the hell. He was half way rich and she was talkin bout how they were going to live with each other till they die and he was going to support me till he dies since he's rich. I was about to slap her but I had to be a good christian remember? what crap.

    ii2cool,

Maybe I was so niave to think that the brothers did not "check out" the sisters in the hall. As a former model I was always downplaying what I looked like so I would not stumble/tempt the brothers, hence my name. I have not been to the meetings in about 5 years but I still have trouble wearing anything revealing. I was even told about being careful about nail polish color and length. What mind control!

I had a very active life before I was a JW, so it was difficult to simply "turn it off". I found that I was constantly checking out the sisters. Of course, with the JW mentality I developed, I thought there was something wrong with me.

Mic running (kept me awake during the mindless monotony)

Sound board (I could do homework, and look like I was taking notes...such a good J-Dub boy).

The last song, knowing that lunch at Michael's Kitchen (Sundays) or McDonalds (Thursdays).

Reading through these posts it seems that most everyone enjoyed the social aspect - but noone really enjoyed the meeting itself. I am also among that crowd - I found the meetings uterly boring and mind numbing.

I really enjoy the church I go to now - I get the social aspect but in addition I learn something every week and it's always new. Plus the music is awesome! (think black souther baptist music mixed in with a little rock&roll) In the three + years I've been attending I have been bored only a handfull of times (we have one preacher that tries really hard but just isn't a good speaker - thank God he only gets to talk about once a year!).

And best of all - I don't feel guilty if I decide to sleep in Sunday morning or stay home and watch the football game. I probably attend church more regularly now than I attended meetings even though there is no "pressure" to go simply because I enjoy it now.

Oh yea - and I wear t-shirts and jeans to church....yea baby! ditch that dress and nylons!

The children running around after the meeting. Sometimes, if I look friendly and unthreatening, they will approach. At least their behavior is unaffected.
