I missed your other post Duncan, I'm so glad you brought it back up. I just may have to share that with a few witnesses I know. Wonderful writing, as ever.

Thanks, Duncan. I had missed your earlier thread, and really enjoyed reading it. That would be something to see.

Can you not make a homemade apparatus to view it? I remember watching an eclipse of the sun (twice in my life, lol, we are lucky in Canada) as a child. It was so strange. The sky grew dark, the street lights came on, the birds started twittering, then hushed. I did not look directly at the sun, but made sure I was outside, in nature, when it took place. We had another here a few years ago. I looked, I know it was dumb, but I just couldn't help it! Amazing.

Have you ever watched a lunar eclipse? They are not dangerous. It takes a fair amount of time, so it's best to be prepared to spend a couple of hours watching. Be rested, and have a lunch, etc., make an evening of it.

I agree that Halley's was a big disappointment. I, too, waited all my life for it. : ) In my mind, I envisioned what it would be like. As the year approached, I was very excited. And then, I couldn't even see it.

My father and I went to the country a few years ago to see the Bopp (?) comet. That was easy to see with his high-powered binoculars. He hadn't known that it would be visible, and he enjoyed the little surprise I had to show him in the early evening sky.

    Blondie,

I was just watching the local news -- the transit of Venus will be visible here, in Eastern Canada. Not sure of where you are ...

Unfortunately, we are going to have rain on Tuesday. : (
