I was a pretty good kid, so didn't get many restrictions or threats, but I remember Mom telling me I couldn't go camping with my grandparents if I didn't (whatever it was). Threatening me with taking away something I was looking forward to was her biggest tool for me.
My father never did that to me EVER. Once when Mom did go through with taking a trip away from me, I appealed to Dad, and he told me he would handle her, and he did. She had to be in subjection, even if he was a pretty poor JW. She had to be an example to me.

I was at times a very bad obnoxious kid who constantly talked back and never shut up. I know many of you will find that hard to believe, but anyway my Mother told me that because of my bad behaivor my kids would be bad to me as they grew up.
It scared me so much to this date I still do not and do not plan to have any kids.

"You kids are going to drive me to drink" and I wold reply "I'll get the keys"
In retrospect being a wise ass got me beat a lot and grounded most of my childhood.

God bless my Mom. She was always realistic about the stuff teenage boys will do. Perhaps her most sage advice to me was "If you can't be good, at least be careful."
