I was sitting here typing a post when I heard the "New Message" tone come from my phone. I played the message and it was none other than my mom.

"Hi, this is mom... I'll talk to you later."

I wonder why she decided to call. I haven't heard peep from my biological family in more than a year. Maybe the death of Ronald Reagan reminded them of their own mortality.

Either way, I don't want to have anything to do with them after the way they have treated me.

They know that I am not evil... I just don't believe in their religion. One day I was a "fine upstanding brother" in the congregation... the next I was supposed to be shunned for being so horribly evil. What had I done to deserve this??? Simple: I told them that I did not want to be a JW.

They claim to support freedom of speech and freedom of religion... but they will shun their own son for not having their religion and for speaking opinions different than their own. They then say that it is their right to shun because of these freedoms. Hypocrites! That is one of the most twisted reasoning?s JWs have... I don't understand how anyone could wrap their brain around it.

Maybe she just got home from the assembly and shes "pumped". She was reminded Armageddons around the corner and your dead meat and she's bothered by it. Just my guess.

I agree with Gumby...there was possibly some inspiring nugget at the convention she needs to pass on to you...

However your post did get me thinking...

Anybody remember when Regan said, "Peace and Security"? I know I crapped my pants...and here we are...some 15 years later. He's dead now.

All I can say is, where's my freaking pet tiger?!

I wonder if that even registers with JW's anymore...does anyone know if they still wait for that tag line, or if it bothers any of them that SO MANY presidents have said, and none of us are bird food yet?

Okay, the ting that I don't understand is that they say to love your wife and family as much as you love yourself... But then again It's a different story when a family member leaves the religion, they have to shun them out because they left the "so called truth" and they are possed by the devil Oh no heaven forbid someone starts to unbelieve the religion, RUN RUN because they are gonna kill us all!!ahhhhh...

hehe its kinda funny because I picture a bunch of ants under a magnafine glass running all over the place trying to escape from being fried!!!!*MORBID, but funny*

    They just called again.

It was my mom and dad trying to "encourage" me and saying that they "miss" me and wanting to make sure I'm OK. Funny... they hold the key to doing that... all they have to do is stop shunning me. They said they missed seeing me at social and family events... I told them that I would love to go, HOWEVER, I would not tolorate any shunning. That is my only condition... if they want to see me, then they cannot shun me. *** Silence from them ***

The message that I kept repeating to them is one of respect. I told them that I strongly support the right to freedom or religion... that everyone has the right to worship (or NOT worship) however they wish. I support their right to preach door to door, to meet together at the KH, and to believe whatever they want...... all I ask in return is the same thing, only I have beliefs that are different from theirs. All I ask is the same respect in return in what I believe and what I don't believe. I told them that it is hypocrisy on their part to demand that they have all of these rights, but then turn around a persecute people for having beliefs that are different. Hypocrites!!!

I also tried a new technique for talking to them to prevent them from going around in circles with the scriptures... I refused to talk about details of their religion. I told them that what they believe is their own personal decision, and their right, and I'm not going to try to change them... all I ask is the same in return. Doing this disarmed them and kept their JW persecution complex from kicking in... Instead it forced them to realize that THEY are the ones doing to persecuting.

Sadly my dad tried to insist that *I* am the one who has been deceived.

your parents sound like mine... it hasn't gotten quite to the shunning point yet 'cause I haven't come out and told them point blank I no longer believe. But when I do I will use your words. Thank you so much for posting this... I'm sorry it's happening, but thank you.

David my friend...I'm sorry that they still languish in assininity when it comes to the whole shunning thing. So much for unconditional love of your children eh? Ya always got us man...and you know the door is always open.

    Sincerely,

    District Overbeer
