I never thought anything of it. I remember being in a car group with a sister who was asked by a young teen in the group if she dyed her hair. The sister was really offended by it and told her "no". When the girl walked away she said, I "color" it I don't "dye" it. I thought it was silly.

Incidentally, the sister who colored her hair has left the org and works at the pharmacy where I go. She still colors her hair. The teen I see at the gym frequently and the last time she actually said hello...elder's daughter too...go figure.

Steve never wanted me to do anything with my hair color. How could I argue when he told me it was because he fell in love with me with brown hair and wanted me to keep it that way. <<sigh>> So I waited eight years and then did it.

I think he'd still prefer it brown...but it's heavily highlighted blonde. He doesn't complain.

I too was envious because i thought it was beautiful and my mother would not allow me to dye mine. When i turned 18 i started dying my hair and have never stopped it is always a different color style, etc.

It was pretty common in the cong I went to. I only had two people I really wondered about. One was similar to the person ohiocowboy spoke of. Old woman very wrinkled and dyed her hair jet black and then piled on the make-up as if that could hide the wrinkles. it really didn't work well.

The other was a teen who dyed her hair platinum. It looked terrible on her. And she had done it so often it ruined her hair.

But most of the sister's (elder's wives included) did a good job of it and looked great.

And then I did it. Streaking worked well and I tried blonde once but I'm NOT a blonde so now I stick to dark blonde or light brown - instead of the mousey color I used to have or the grey and white - yes I really am getting old

There was this one sister, an elders wife, and she had dark brown hair, and then she dyed streaks of high-blonde i it. She looked likea zebra ... But in my cong, elders wifes could do anything, and all the other elders wife were standing around here, sucking up to her about how gorgeous it was....

All I could think of was that she looked ridiculous, and with all the talk about apearances .. this could not be right.

Btw, I have no problem with dying hair at all ...

    10. All of the above (probably excepting 7, 8)- LOL
It depended on a variety of things, including the quality of the dye-job

Oh, yes! Downunder it's certainly frowned on and depeneding on the local elders and their attitudes, you may find yourself enjoying a meeting with them in the library!!

    That's funny, Oz.

It sure isn't that way here. One of our DO's years ago, was an older Italian man, with dyed jet black hair. He was about 70 but no gray hair in sight. I don't think anyone would dare tell him he shouldn't do that. Lots of the men int he congregations dyed their hair or highlighted it in this part of the world.

    Sorry ozzie,

I was an elders daughter for years and both my sister, mum and i always dyed our hait and nobody ever had a problem with it. The only person that did was my husband, but by then i was dying it dark purple, he thought that was a bit rebelious. He was right though i was doing it to get a reaction. How sad 25 and being that bored, mind you now i've moved on to peircing and tattoos.

    Love Lehaa. Fellow Aussie

No problem with sisters/or brothers dyeing their hair around here unless it is an extreme color like purple or blue.

There as a concern at one time that hair dye caused cancer but then the companies changed their forumlas.

Dye away, I do, you didn't think I was a natural blonde, did you?
