How Many People Could Invent A Different Same-Forum Persona?

Occasionally, we get people joining the forum who already have an account here. Actually, one somewhat entertaining Brit has had dozens of accounts opened and then closed in the last few months.

Now I'm not referring to the old days when you might have found, for example, Simon and Simon 1 in the members list. This was just a strategy to up the number of posts that were available to a member to make and not regarded as a particular big deal back then.

No, I'm talking about the possibility of a long established poster, on any forum, not just this one, deciding to re-invent himself. Or, to put it more accurately, re-invent a part of himself.

Maybe he's an amiable guy generally who's just got pissy about something and decides he wants to have his say without compromising his otherwise pleasant persona on a board such as this. So he invents a new poster with which to vent his frustration.

So my question is this: Isn't the dual or triple role mentally exhausting? Does it take a devious mentality to be able to do this? Or is it as easy as putting on a new hat? (Ha ha)

And, apart from the fact that more than one account is verboten here, do you think it's honest to use more than one persona on the same forum in the same time span?

I have a hard enough time keeping one persona out of trouble, why would I want more????

Actually though when I joined Kent's board I didn't use my "common" user name. I thought it would be interesting to see how people interacted with me without any preconceived notions of who I was. I was right, it was interesting. But ultimately it didn't feel right. I haven't ever done it again, if I don't use Xena for whatever reason I do let people know that I am also Xena so they are aware of who they are posting to and/or speaking with.

Now days I figure if I don't feel comfortable saying something under a recognizable name then I probably shouldn't be saying it.

I figure if you are happy with yourself and who you are, there is no need to use another name.

If I ever use another name, it will be "pokey".....so I can kick my own ass if I deserve it.

    E-man,

I like your new avatar better. The last one was was a little scary. Clowns scare me. The only ones that don't are the ones at the Ringling Brothers circus.

Yep, the new one is much nicer.

The avatar was actually of Queen Elizabeth the Second, our reigning monarch.

It had been messed with a little. Many England soccer supporters have painted the cross of Saint George on their faces in anticipation of matches taking place right now in Portugal in the European Cup competition.

Click again, it's bigger and you can see the detail.

I wear my heart on my sleeve, so to speak, so it would be quite difficult for me to come off with a different opinion or attitude. I'm good at keeping quiet, but not at pretending.

A few years ago on another board I had different IDs. There were used in different parts of the board - ex-Borg lee for the religious section, my real name for the recovery section which I moderated, and Lady Lee (given to me by the board members) for the rest of the board. I was still me and everyone knew it. I don't have the energy to be more than me.

Actually I did have a second ID here that I have never used. I opened it when I had a lot of problems logging on here but couldn't log on with the new ID either

Englishman, is this a tacit admission of guilt on your part? Guilty of violating the Terms Of Use here at JWD? ;)

We herby request that you attend an important Judicial Committee Meeting hearing this coming Monday evening, at 7:00PM, at the Kingdom Hall. It would be good and beneficial to you to attend.

You may not bring any sound recording equipment. You may bring witnesses to speak in your behalf, but you can be sure have already ruled any defence you produce as prejudicial and irrelevant and will not allow it to be heard.

In the meantime, please give some thought to whether or not you truly believe that this Discussion forum is the one true channel being used by Jahoobie to deliver his spiritual truths to the XJW community, and has been since 1914... I mean since 2001????
