OMG
My dog who was six months old at the time ate snail and slug bait, The same thing happened, I didn't think he could reach it, he was just a puppy. What the heck is in that stuff they want to eat it? Oh Hell, they want to eat everything.
I had clients come in who wanted to take me out to dinner, I had a weird feeling, and told them I needed to get home, it was ten to five. Well when I got home two minutes after five my baby was shaking, so I called all vets. Now I have been in this community for 18 years, not one of them called me back. So off to the emergency animal hospital, 30 minutes away, with my best friend in tow, who drove me. His stomach was pumped, another hour and he would of died. $600 it was worth of medicine, and it was all worth it..
He is a pitbull/ Great dane, and the sweetest thing in the world, but since that incident, and the one where the annulled person abused him he has never been the same. All 110 lbs of him. I think he would of taken the psycho out.
He was my saviour, but alas he is in heaven, as I have told others, he is with clients of mine now in Idaho, who love him and he has 4 children who love him. All on lots of acres.
Thanks, now I am crying.
Lehaa,
I am so sorry.
Lehaa, I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets are our babies too, just like children, and it hurts immeasurably when they die.
Love & hugs,
Nina
(((((Leehaa))))) After reading your post, I would say that your dog performed some high level acrobatics to get up there and eat the poison. We can only do so much, right? We just lost our little parakeet, Saucy yesterday. I was sitting here, in the den, and the birds are in the LR which connects to this room thru a large doorway.......and all the critters....the birds and the cats were in there together. The birds were flying around the room and then coming back to their cage, Trouble, my cat was lying on the back of the big chair by the window, as he always does.........and next thing I know, Saucy is screaming in panic and I'm up out of my chair and into the LR in 2 seconds and manage to get the bird and cat away from one another! Then, trying to catch Saucy, she careened into a window full force, and 24 hours later, she's dead from brain swelling, etc. The cat didn't do any damage, just some feathers were removed.......me and my roommate both felt terrible. We cried as we brought her to the vet, who gave us our options, and in the midst of all that, Saucy quietly slipped into the Light..............(tears are flowing) I know how you are feeling, Lee, don't beat yourself up.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Losing a pet feels like losing a family member.
(((Lehaa))) it is def. NOT you fault. Dogs can get into all sorts of trouble, and you cannot be blamed for it. Once a dog of mine got out, and ate some rotten meat or something, she was so very sick ... but those things happen .... So sad when you loose one tho. Hugs to you, and the advice of getting a new puppy asap is really good.
Ohhhhh, I'm SO sorry! I know how much it hurts.
I wish I could DO something to make you feel better-----
Hugs,
Annie
Like everyone elese has said,it is not your fault.
Sorry for your loss.*hugs*
Lehaa,
I'm sorry your friend and pet has passed on. It is probably no comfort, but he did go away, doing what dogs like to do best: poking around in places they're not supposed to be. It wasn't your fault. It's jsut something that happened.
