I will be combining the few points in this article with next week's due to time constraints. If you want to share an observations, please do. I learn so much from all of you.

    just a few points

    Paragraph 1

one organization calls "the pervading attitude among many people...that older persons have outlived their usefulness, are unproductive and over-dependent."

Can the WTS give us the organization who said this?

    Paragraph 7

    Guilt-inducing experiences

Consider Sonia, who became a full-time Kingdom publisher in 1941. Despite a long struggle with chronic illness, she regularly conducted Bible studies in her home.

    Paragraph 8

    The carrot:

And if you remain faithful, he will grant you a place in his promised new world.

    Paragraph 10

    Bible study is not enough

Likewise, you can draw sustenance from the waters of Bible truth by your study of God's Word

    and

    by association with his organization.

    Paragraph 13

    How to display zeal:

attending and participating in congregation meetings and by sharing in the field ministry whenever possible. Your ready acceptace of the Bible's counsel and your loyal support for "the faithful and discreet slave" and the congregation will have a strengthening effect on the Christian brotherhood.

    Paragraph 17

What is a positive and strengthening effect on the Christian brotherhood:

You have noted the clarification (buzzword) and have witnessed the progressive refinement (buzzword) of the visible part of God's organization.

    Paragraph 18

    Guilt-inducing experience

"When my husband died," recalls Tolmina, "I felt very discouraged, but those words (no matter what happens, never abandon Jehovah) made me determined not to

    miss a single meeting.

    Paragraph 19

Today's world, characterized by a lack of gratitude, has little time for the elderly.

Think of how the elderly were treated in your congregation.

the elderly in my cong had nothing better to do but moan.

PD, not how the elderly acted, but how they were treated. Perhaps they were moaning because no one helped them or talked to them.

i think there was some good support in our cong, not that i really knew much about it, but if someone was in trouble there would always be someone there to help. i think we had a welfare bro and sis too. did u have that in your cong blondie?

that older persons have outlived their usefulness, are unproductive and over-dependent

I was asked to join a sheparding call on one of my book study (yes MS are conducting, if there are not enough elders). I thought of an elderly sister i knew from years ago - she also had a BS in her home - and she was at that time in a "Pflegeheim" (elderly home?. She couldn't even speak anymore due to physical handicaps. It was good to give her a visit by me and the PO i thought.

His answer? "Better visit Brother xyz and encourage him reaching out to become a MS. This sister is visited by her family and that's enough".

    Hi Blondie,

    To your question?

"Think How The Elderly Were Treated In your Congregation "

When I moved to my Swedish congregation most of the elderly were the elders and there wifes. But looking back I do remember asking at the memorial "Who the elderly lady in the wheel chair was?" And I thought It was nice Brother such and such bought his elderly study to the memorial!!. I remember being surprised and a little dissapointed when told they were Brother & Sisters.? It struck me that they were only "Brothers & Sisters" one day a year.

Although this Is sad Iam guilty of the same attitude with my non-witness relatives (Not because I was A witness but because I was selfish) Iam glad that I have learnt a lesson from this and am able to rectify It.

There are many widows in my congregation. They have one vehicle between them, and that widow is kept busy Sunday gathering them all together for the meeting.

These are ladies who have sacrificed their entire lives for the society. They are tough, determined, and cling to their martyr's shroud as a miser hoards his gold. I would not wish to pry them away from the society - a life away from that dream could destroy them.

I wonder, though, why aren't the hearty young men, the young couples, stepping in to help? Or are they too busy padding their own "nest egg" of "good works" - going door-to-door?

That's the problem--everybody is just too busy carrying their own load--between meetings and service and study for the meetings and personal study and family study and then working to make money to support the family and to donate to the organization-- there just isn't enough time to give these ones any personal attention when all time is spent working for the Organization (that is, afterall, what is promoted first and foremost)

There are, of course, exceptions, but by and large, JWs are incessantly conditioned to obsess over THEIR standing, THEIR hours, THEIR meeting attendance, THEIR spirituality, THEIR ``relationship to Jehovah," etc., etc., it's no wonder they're so self-absorbed and heedless of the needy amongst them.

They pursue their supposed ``spiritual goals" avidly and with regularity, frequenting the Kingdom Hall in much the same spirit as the narcissistic body-beautiful types haunt their local gyms, to work on THEIR biceps, THEIR abdomens, THEIR body-fat percentage, etc.

Oh yeah, they do treat the elderly great. Currently my good little dubbie/pioneer daughter is ignoring her 83 year old grandmother because this terrible 4' 9" humpbacked woman had the audacity to DA herself from "Gods Organization" on account of the U.N., molestation mess. In the past 3 1/2 months since my fathers passing my dubdaughter has traveled the 5 miles to her house and visited her once for a few minutes.
