I've posted it before, but doesn't it remind you of what Hassan said in "Combatting cult mind control"?
He talked about the expectations of one cult leader that taught that his followers were to meet at a specific place at a specific time and that they were going to be taken off in a space ship before they brought on a global flood to kill everyone. So they all gathered at this specific spot and waited all night. Nothing happened. Wouldn't you expect all of them to leave? A few did, but they were the ones that were fringe members and were not so invested in this prophecy as the others were. The others, instead of leaving, became even more dedicated to the group. Why? They were told that because of the outstanding example of their vigil, the aliens had decided to spare humankind.
