Going For A Song

They say that memory is all about association. When we recall a happy or desperate time in our lives, a song or TV programme or even an ad can bring the era concerned flooding back.

These are my "leaving the dubs" selections:

    My song was "Beautiful Sunday".

My TV programme was "Monty Pythons Flying Cicus".

My TV ad was "Click on here and turn up the speakers. Instant nostalgia!"

Like you, my TV program was "Monty Python's Flying Circus" -- is it possible that satirical humor is an anti-meme to cultish thinking?

I had two pieces of music, though - "Jesus Christ Superstar" and The Who's "TOMMY"

    No particular commercial stuck...

That sure brings back memories. She lives near us. I saw her when we were walking around the lake one day. Tiny, tiny woman. She is about 5' or less.

Mulan, what's S.P. doing now? Still in the fitness business?

We only had one tv channel then, so I watched lots of movies instead. "Pleasantville," "The Matrix," the original "Stepford Wives," and "The Truman Show" really hit a nverve.

She isn't visible publicly. She had a baby, I heard, but he must be about 5 or 6 by now.

    oh yes, I do agree...

the songs for me ( oldies now) are the group " Queen" Bohemian Rhapsody , the group " Boston" More than a feeling...

When I hear those songs; it brings back a bittersweet time of my life when freedom was something new and intoxicating; but the accompanying confusion was crippling....

the movie that started the gears moving in my head was "Logans Run" ( the movie; not the JWD poster. Bradley, are you listening?)

There was a scene in the movie when all people over age 25 had to report to "Carousel" ; a circular device that would draw them upward in a spiral toward the light; they thought that they would be reborn. It was expected of them to be reborn....the light was actually a laser which disintegrated them..... I was disturbed by the lie, and what occurred to me instantly was that this was just a movie--I was going to live forever--THAT WAS THE LIE!
