Actually FMZ I think you should build a tree house.

Even if you don't have the proper trees you can build it way up off the ground by installing your own (big poles) or whatever.

We have one, under the guise that it's for the kids, but really (and don't tell anybody this) It's for US! My hubby and I. It's great and even has a front porch with railings. We sneak out there to be alone and drink tea and get away. Mu- ha-ha-ha. It's huge by tree fort standards. Just shy the legal limit that we didn't need a building permit.

Another plus is that it doesn't flood.

    sincerely

p.s Someday I'll probably end up in a hole in the ground anyways. I'll take my time and enjoy it then. lol

I know of a few Middle Easterners that have told me (as true shepherds would), "A hole is a hole".

The other day while we were on the interstate, I saw a hay fort set up in someone's yard. I said something to my kids about how some lucky little kid had set up a fort for the summer. My oldest son said "I don't think a little kid could have made that."

I took a better look at it, and saw that it wasn't just a little one layer structure-it was massive, and was supported by wood beams, etc. My kids, who have done a lot of haying in their lives, were wondering out loud how long it would be before it was full of bees and snakes (nothing is more disconcerting than trying to figure out what to do when you find a bale of hay with a snake caught in the binding twine),lol.

My kids prefer snow forts. They are pretty good at making the igloo-style ones.

I'd like to have a tree house someday, when we are no longer renting. I've always wanted to live in a tree house, ever since I read an article about a guy who built a full size house in a tree (with ground supports, of course).
