Mulan, you're right. Some are local policies but if the CO usually said something, it generally was accepted. Nowadays, I think, the Society has them speaking with less of their own opinion and more like the Stepford Elders that they are!

ya Mulan I have to agree with you. However, people run off with ideas and they get really popular, pretty much with anything that has a label on it. Can't hate people all too hard for trying to do whats right.

I don't think wearing moon boots would would be objectionable, especially in a cold environment, and I do know moon boots are NOT spoken against in the Bible!

I always thought that saying people to tell about their sins to elders was worse than catholic confession (a + in knowing how sinner they were themselves !)
And as a kid who were living 1/2 time in beligium in a catholic familly, I can tell that priest do not look at people down ! witch is not the case of Elders (who do they think they are ? and they know who they can look down and who they cannot - FUNNY somehow)

Actually, a CO's opinion that was enforced by many elder bodies long after he left. Finally several families complained to the new CO who said he didn't see the problem, so the "rule" was lifted.

Not me, min, I had the money to invest in some good leather boots with thick soles and plush lining, after all I only had one person to buy footwear, but families with several children couldn't afford to buy $75 boots for 3 children. I would have bought moon boots if that was all I could afford and some did. The families who did just switched to a congregation where the elder body didn't kiss the CO's a**.

Although I can see why the GB would endorse this, the ban on all yoga type activities was ridiculous. OK...so I can stretch my body but I can't meditate while doing so. I am encouraged to meditate on recent meetings and magazines, but true meditation that involves quieting the mind is inviting the devil. Talk about having control over the sheep, even their minds are fenced off. Can you blame them, though? People that discover their personal inner wealth have no need for high control religion. Yes, I do blame them.

One black brother got told off by the elders for having his hair clipped too short as well. It suited him and did not look thuggish. One of the body was actually going bald and clipped his remaining hair very short, surely this elder should have been made to wear a wig?

I remember the circuit overseer in our circuit would not appoint any brother as a servant unless he wore only white shirts--no pastel. At our next circuit assembly the district overseer was wearing a green shirt. Boy did the news spread quickly, but we didn't hear anything more about white shirts after that.

How about the fear of national flags? If a shirt had even a one square inch flag or if it had an eagle that looked a little too proud, it was not to be worn. Why is a mustache OK, but a goatee is not? Freedom of facial hair is very important to us guys, a way to express ourselves. Why is the only acceptable format the one also favored by 70's porn stars? "You can either be clean-shaven.......or look like Ron Jeremy."
