Reading Glasses and Headaches

I've had a terrible time the last 2 weeks with headaches. They usually come on in the early afternoon and by the end of the day I can hardly see straight. I don't wear glasses but I noticed that after working on the computer or documents and I get up to walk around my distance vision is poor, i.e. things are blurry at a distance but I can see close up just fine.

So I went to my eye doctor who told me that the headaches are caused by my eye muscles working too hard. Fancy way of saying eye strain. He said that as we get older (I'm 42) the eye becomes harder, therefore the eye muscles have to work harder to focus on near or far objects.

He recommended reading glasses to cure the headache problem. Quite honestly, I'm somewhat skeptical. I don't have trouble reading and I'm not sure how getting reading glasses will help with headaches.

I went ahead and got a pair at Target, so here I am typing away with my little readers on and feeling like a goofball.

Anyway my question is has anyone else had this problem? If so, did getting reading glasses work? Inquiring minds want to know.

Face it Big Tex, you aint no kid anymore. You are at the right age to need glasses. I am surprised he didn't give you a prescription for new glasses.

I was told by an eye doctor that around the age of forty your face starts to change which affects the eyes to the point the optics change, thus causing a need for glasses. This also happens to kids going thru puberity, such as my son. He had to get glasses at the age of 13. Bug

BT I had the same problem with eye strain. It got really bad for me with the headaches after being in school for 10 years and all the reading I was doing. The headaches were every day and out of control.

I got a pair of prescription glases and the headaches went away.

Most often eyes begin to get worse at different rates. I have had a difference in my eyes for most of my life. Using those magnifying glasses wouldn't really work for me. They would just continue the imbalance. The prescription glasses corrected the problem and encouraged the weaker eye to work a bit harder giving the stronger eye a bit of a break

I would suggest getting an eye exam to make sure you don't have a similar problem that requires prescription glasses. If you need them GET THEM. Your eyesight is too precious to fool around with.

Yep that's what's been happening. The thing is I've had an eye exam (he even used this new technology to take a picture of the eyeball and I found out I don't have a brain tumor, or diabetes and my cholesterol is good) and that's where the reading glasses suggestion came from.

Yes, but I'm not putting any money in no damn collection plate

I've worn glasses since I was 17 so it's no big deal to me. I actually can see fine without them, but can't read well without them, because I caused myself to have astigmatism by reading without them for years, before I got glasses. I say you should wear them so you don't cause further damage to your eyes.

LOL Tex !! Well, not LOL @ the headaches-yikes. Glad it was something minor.

You are lucky it waited this long.

Problem isn't with your eyes- your arms are just too short. --Can you hold this way over there so I can read it???

Don't feel bad- I've been wearing glasses since I was 9 !! My eyesight is so bad that I need my glasses to find my glasses !!

Can we call you "Four Eyes" now?

    Middle age sucks.

Yeah, The bod just doesn't work the way it used to, or the way we want it to, any more.

However, I;m finding a new freedom in the ability to speak my mind like never before! Life is becoming too short not to.

I'm near sighted and have worn glasses since 9 or 10. Now I have to take my glasses off to see up close, to read the fine print, etc., at least I can still read the fine print! Reading with my glasses on, I'm holding the material farther and farther away.

It gets better, it gets worse, it gets real, it gets different, then it gets real different!
