Yup. That's what the movie appears to be to me. Truth combined with utter sensationalism. That's why I don't want to see it... and I don't support america or the war in iraq one bit.

Casseline--you're talking about Bob Kerrey, not John Kerry. A common mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

On May 6, 2001 Tim Russert interviewed Senator John Kerry on Meet the Press. In the course of the interview, Mr. Russert asked the senator about his views on Vietnam.

MR. CROSBY NOYES (Washington Evening Star): Mr. Kerry, you said at one time or another that you think our policies in Vietnam are tantamount to genocide and that the responsibility lies at all chains of command over there. Do you consider that you personally as a Naval officer committed atrocities in Vietnam or crimes punishable by law in this country?

SEN. KERRY: There are all kinds of atrocities, and I would have to say that, yes, yes, I committed the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers have committed in that I took part in shootings in free fire zones. I conducted harassment and interdiction fire. I used 50 calibre machine guns, which we were granted and ordered to use, which were our only weapon against people. I took part in search and destroy missions, in the burning of villages. All of this is contrary to the laws of warfare, all of this is contrary to the Geneva Conventions and all of this is ordered as a matter of written established policy by the government of the United States from the top down. And I believe that the men who designed these, the men who designed the free fire zone, the men who ordered us, the men who signed off the air raid strike areas, I think these men, by the letter of the law, the same letter of the law that tried Lieutenant Calley, are war criminals.

This is tame compared to other things he said he did, I do not have the time to find them now... but this is John Kerry speaking above not whomever you are speaking of--- no 'mistake' on what John Kerry said he did to the those in Vietnam. Cassi

If anyone cares to cast off their knee jerk emotional responses to Moore's propaganda and actualy spend some time investigating his claims I'm sure they would have no choice other than reaching the inevitable conclusion that he is once again demonstrating his ability to ignore reality and distort historical events to present a view of the world that fits his ideological template.

As in Bowling for Columbine....the only thing Moore documents is his close personal relationship with Krispy Kreme!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's far more than critical..indeed hostile toward the country that has given this windbag the freedom to get very rich and very fat!!!

Once again, we see the die-hards picking for little factual errors which are really insignificant so that they can dismiss the whole thing.

"Moore said one but we found out that there are two ... he's a liar, everything he says is lies, we don't have to listen to it"

Contrast this with the way they treat Bush:

"So what if he said there were WoMD or Saddam was an imminent theat, does it really matter?"

Also, I wonder if they are as picky with numbers when it comes to numbers killed in Iraq, both military and civilian:

"No, you said 950 troops had been killed, it's actually more than 1,000 ..."

What is sad is that they miss the point entirely that Moore was making in a very powerful way. The people who bear the brunt of the dangerous work in Iraq and elsewhere are often the poor and disadvantaged, not the rich and the powerful - but they are happy to send these other people.

Michael Moore was - gasp - against the PROM? Say it isn't so! I think those who oppose the prom are traitors to humanity and basic decency and are beneath contempt. And he was a LONER? My god, that's unpatriotic all by itself. Clearly he's someone we don't have to take seriously. All decent, honest Americans are extroverted cheerleaders and jocks in high school, it's a well known fact. The rest are potential mass murderers. Ask anybody.

No Simon, that isn't how I spell success, but the fact is you called the man an idiot...were he an idiot I doubt he'd be living at 10 Downing street as long as he has been.

Nothing has been clearly shown anything on this board about Michael Moore.

Keep drinking the koolaid Patio, keep drinking the koolaid.

I don't blame you, I am not crazy about Kerry but I am less crazy about Bush getting another 4 years to run this country into the ground

He's run the country into the ground? How exactly is that, is it the booming economy that troubles you...the jobs being created in the aftermath of the worst hit our economy took since the Great Depression...what exactly is it you object to...his standing his ground in the face of terror...yep Kerry's higher taxes...that will help.

Anyway, its too bad Moore did so much deceptive editing. I think aside from that his message is right on the mark.

From what I can tell his message is that he hates America...or am I missing something.

As in Bowling for Columbine....the only thing Moore documents is his close personal relationship with Krispy Kreme!!!!!!!!!!!!

    BEEHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Once again, we see the die-hards picking for little factual errors which are really insignificant so that they can dismiss the whole thing.

    Simon,

I didn't know the truth was insignificant. What has been pointed out by me and others go to the heart of the matter.

Go drink some moore koolaid or something. In every single discussion of Michael Moore on this board it's been demonstrated time and time again that he's lied, twisted the truth, misdirected...Simon, it's what he does.

He blames Bush for allowing the Bin Laden family out of the US...however, if you investigate, you find it was Richard Clarke who made that decision...and that it was AFTER limited commercial flights had been restarted.

He claims that Gore won the election...but every single recount, even the ones conducted by liberal news papers, show that BUSH WON FLORIDA and the election, by all acceptable measure for counting votes.

He shows Bush making the comment about the "haves and havemores" WAY OUT OF CONTEXT. It was a fund raiser for a political charity in OCTOBER of 2000 attended by both he and Al Gore and it was a JOKE as he and Al Gore poked fun at themselves and each other that evening to raise money for charity.

He shows scenes of dead Iraqi kids and then US soldiers high fiving each other, but the scenes are in no way connected to each other.

He ignores most of the grieving mothers and spouses who are proud of what their children and spouses have done...and he ignores that most of the soldiers over ther know who and what they're fighting for and are proud of it.

He pulls his little stunt that we're discussing here...

Simon, the guy wouldn't know the truth if it came to him in a Krispy Kreme donut...so don't start talking about the conservatives "nip picking"...it's been shown time and again the guys an Fing liar...and YOU are starting to look ridiculous in your support of the fat slob.

From what I can tell his message is that he hates America...or am I missing something.

His message in 911 is that there's no good reason for being in Iraq, and that Bush is an idiot. I agree with both points. We have gone from a country attacked by terroists with the entire worlds support to one that is now held in deep suspicion by all, with a phoney excuse for agression coupled with outright falsehoods from its most trusted agencies. Bush has put America's credibility in the toilet and is well on his way to creating his very own Vietnam. And yes we are now breeding a whole new class of terrorists whose cause many more admire.

The whole "war on Terror" depends on cooperation from other countries. What the hell did Iraq have to do with the terrorists ? Please don't cite that weak and tenuous Al Queda connections touted by the White house. These are the same people who swore to the world that Iraq had WMD.

Nice post Mulan....Michalina and I are curious to see this movie....Michalina is more sold on Kerry than I am, but I think a movie like this is good for debate about what is going on in this country.....I think if you are brainwashed on either side (like several people in this thread) than you just aren't reasonable....like the JW's at your door on a saturday morning. To say things like "if you oppose the war, you aren't human" is ridiculous.....I support our soldiers, but i'm still not sold on the war.....Safer country since 9/11? I dont think thats a valid statement either.

I did not like several scenes in "bowling for columbine"...some of it came off as shoddy manipulative journalism.....

Roaring economy? Are you smoking crack Yeru? People who made $25 an hour are accepting jobs that pay $12 an hour and so they count as having found work....My dad works in manufacturing and is worried every day he will get laid off.....they forced him to take a 3.8% pay cut just to keep his job....and oh yeah...no more raises. Just an annual bonus....Yeah, the economy is really coming back. Give me a break. It is if you make minimum wage up to about $16 an hour the economy is providing new jobs....anything more than that....good luck. Maybe in the part of the country you are in...but i'm in seattle and my parents are in Philly...both cities have it hard.....
