    Hi Leolaia

How do you know the meat is not dog meat? They tricked unsuspecting customers all the times ...

    Enjoy ...

Green dragon....Yes, we did not actually witness them slaughter the animals and prepare them for cooking, though I'd be willing to wager that the pigeon dish was not really dog or something other than avian (head excluded). For one thing, all the bones in the pigeon dish were, shall I say, quite delicate. As for the donkey meat, I don't think the restaurant was out to deceive foreigners -- as it was the specialty of this restaurant, and it was packed by locals, and I would think they'd get a bigger kick out of serving real donkey meat to dumb foreigners who can't read the Chinese menu (which clearly said "donkey meat" in Chinese characters) who'd mistake it for beef than substitute it for something else. And what we had looked identical to what all the locals were eating (and they served it up mighty quick, and considering how we were the only foreigners there, that puts a damper on the "substitution hypothesis"). Finally, regarding the camel meat, there is more of a possibility there since it was a restaurant in the hotel catering to out-of-towners. Yet, most of the clientele was still Chinese, and if they were faking camel meat in general, I'm sure there were ppl there who would know what camel meat would taste like. Conversely, my partner knows what dog meat tastes like, having had it for years while living in the Philippines. And he did not say it tasted like dog meat.

SixofNine....hehe, well, I wish that would be the case, but that would be a waste of a camel. I'm pretty sure, fairly certain, it was a different animal than the one I rode on...

mustang....Sounds like you had quite a culinary adventure too. I definitely would not be able to handle staring at the brain. And swimming shrimp would prolly be too much too.

Leolaia, you're very brave, in many ways it seems! Hahaha.

Have fun and thanks for sharing your experiences. I think I would be on a diet of white or brown rice....
