Into The Mystic by Van Morrisson

We were born before the wind
    Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don?t have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don?t have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic

Sunnygal ... Speaking of Bob Seger ...

He is one of my all-time favorites ... I love his view of what men are about ... hehehe!!!

    Shame On The Moon

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

Until you've been beside a man

You don't know what he wants

You don't know if he cries at night

You don't know if he don't

    Where nothing comes easy

    Old nightmares are real

Until you've been beside a man

You don't know how he feels

    Once inside a woman's heart

A man must keep his head

    Heaven opens up the door

    Where angels fear to tread

    Some men go crazy

    Some men go slow

Some men go just where they want

    Some men never go

    Ooooooh, blame it on midnight

    Whooooooa, shame on the moon

    ---- Instrumental Interlude ----

    Everywhere is all around

    Comfort in the crowd

    Stanger's faces all round

    Laughing right out loud

    Hey, watch where you're goin'

    Step light on old toes

Until you've been beside a man

You don't know who he knows

    Ooooooh, blame it on midnight

    Whooooooa, shame on the moon

    Ooooooh, blame it on midnight

    Whooooooa, shame on the moon

    Whooooa-hooo-hooo

    Blame it on midnight

You can blame it on midnight

    Shame, shame, shame

    Shame on the moon

    Blame it on midnight

    Shame on the moon

    SOMEDAY WE'LL ALL BE FREE
    (Written by Hathaway / Howard)

Hang on to the world as it spins around
Just don't let the spin get you down
    Things are moving fast
Hold on tight and you will last
Keep your self respect, your manly pride
    Get yourself in gear
    Keep your stride
    Never mind your fears
Brighter days will soon be here
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free

    Keep on walking tall
    Hold your head up high
Lay your dreams right up to the sky
    Sing your greatest song
And you'll keep going, going on
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free
Hey, just wait and see, some day we'll all be free
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free
It won't be long, take it from me, someday we'll all be free
Take it from me, take it from me, take it from me someday we'll all be free

Into The Mystic by Van Morrisson

Welcome back, SunnyGal. You know, I had just enqued this song into my Winamp when I scrolled down to find you had posted these lyrics. Monday afternoon, when Andy and I were getting ready to drive down to Wayland for Andy's grandmother's first visitation, I went back to grab a tape to listen to on the way. Well, I picked out Moon Dance by Van Morrison. So we listened to it all three times we drove down there. But when we were driving to the church for her funeral yesterday, Into The Mystic was playing. We had never thought of the lyrics possibly applying to life's journey that eventually takes us down the sea of death. It just fits and it has brought us comfort. Really interesting coincidence, Terri.

I like your other choices, too. Woodstock was and is a beautiful song. My favorite version is from the CSN&Y LP Dejavu.

Until you've been beside a man

You don't know how he feels

This reminds me of the Joe South song Walk A Mile In My Shoes. It's so easy to judge. To me it's one of the most hurtful "sins" any of us commit. I try very hard not to judge. It's a human weakness that's hard to fight, though. It's good to have pleasant reminders in song.

Fraidy, this is a very positive song. Recently I picked up an old copy of a Shawn Mullins tape at the Goodwill Store. It's the one with Lullaby on it. What struck me about it besides every song sounding good was that each song contained a positive, uplifting message. When I'm feeling down and blue I usually want to listen to up songs like the one you mentioned.

We've got a good collection of song lyrics going here. Keep them coming.

I cpasted from a site that had the lyrics. So it's their caps not mine. However, given the spirit of the song, they fit.

Alright, L_A_, Twisted Sister just makes me smile. I especially loved Dee's cameo in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I think Dee is supposed to be writing songs for Celine Dion or someone similar now. Thank you for the smile, I really need it after the last two weeks to four months. Flyin'

Released 31st October, 1975 - Spent 17 weeks on chart (9 at number 1). Went Platinum. First song ever to take advantage of a promotional video. Re-released 9th December, 1991. Entered charts at number 1.

    Incidentally,
"Bismillah" is the opening word in the Qu'ran (Koran) and literally means "In the name of Allah."
"Scaramouch" according to the dictionary means "a stock character who appears as a boastful coward."
"Beelzebub" is one of the many names given to "The Devil."

    Lyrics

    Is this the real life?
    Is this just fantasy?
    Caught in a landslide
    No escape from reality
    Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
    A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me

    Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
    Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
    Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
    Sends shivers down my spine
    Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo - (anyway the wind blows)
    I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me
    Gallileo, Gallileo,
    Gallileo, Gallileo,
    Gallileo Figaro - magnifico

But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go - will you let me go
Bismillah! No - we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let me go
Will not let you go - let me go (never)
Never let you go - let me go
Never let me go - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
    for me
    for me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby - can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here

    Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
    Nothing really matters
    Anyone can see
Nothing really matters - nothing really matters to me

    Anyway the wind blows...

And for those times I really need to just blow the stink off I get on my bike and ride!

Hey, Kate, that Fat Bottomed Girls, the other song on that 45 was a consciousness raising song, too. It said to us, "Hey, dudes: them fat bottoms is sexy, too." I liked the song they did for the movie Highlander. Was it Who Wants To Live Forever?

Looking forward to your 60s songs now.

This is the happiest consciousness raising song I can remember from the 1960s. We used to play it on the jukebox at the bowling alley on Friday nights and Saturday mornings when our parents and then we bowled in leagues. I was 10 when this song was popular. It made my soul soar. I couldn't understand why every adult didn't feel this way and drop their differences and make this world a better place for us, their children and themselves.

    People Got To Be Free
    by * Rascals
All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
Listen, please listen, that's the way it should be
Deep in the valley, people got to be free

You should see what a lovely, lovely world this'd be
Everyone learned to live together, ah-hah-unh
Seems to me such an itty bitty thing should be
Why can't you and me learn to love one another?

All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
I can't understand it, so simple to me
People everywhere just got to be free

If there's a man who is down and needs a helpin' hand
All it takes is you to understand and to pull him through, ah-hah-unh
Seems to me we got to solve it individually, ah-hah-unh
And I'll do unto you what you do to me

Shout it from the mountain on out to the sea (out to the sea)
No two ways about it, people have to be free
Ask me my opinion, my opinion will be
Nat'ral situation for a man to be free

    Git right on board now

Oh, what a feelin's just come over me
Love can move a mountain, make a blind man see
Everybody sing it now come on let's go see
Deep in the valley now, we ought to be free

    SPOKEN
    See that train over there?
    That's the train of freedom
It's about to 'rrive any minute, now
You know it's been'a long, long overdue
Look out 'cause it's a'comin' right on through
