Bull01lay has said a very true statement.

For so many years we studied these books , we said "Roll on Armageddon" we could not wait to see the end of "this old system".. Why did it not strike us as horrible genocide? I think that most of us were brought up to it and if one is conditioned to such things from an early age, then they just seem normal. And of course it was just unthinkable to question any such doctrine of the Society.

Eventually events did make me think and this very issue made me see that this whole concept just cannot be true. It is just not right! Then the rest of it all just fell apart

Maybe this is why there is such a generation gap between the old JWs that leave and new ones that leave. The watchtower seems to have lost hope in armageddon so they are really down playing it. THey dont want you to speculate on any part of it really. It went from crystal clear pictures of technicolor mass destruction to all non jws to a phantom spirit war.

I know the old jws like to get on the podium and try to ressurect the armageddon of old but my like a story tell at a campfire once the the morning comes the ghost are gone. It is back to the watchtowers official jibberish about gog magog. Why did the phase out such a strong part of the jw message. Even if armageddon was pushed far off the flesh eaten plagues, and mass genocide could still be kept with todays sensibilities the pictures can be even more gory.

What killed the great fear inspiring day of Jehovah?

As a dim-wit witness I didn't think too deeply on these pics, but thinking about it now how truly horrifying would it be to be a witness of this kind of death and destruction. I remember one poster's comments when I first landed on this site about his experience after 9/11 and after seeing the horror of the destruction that happened then and then thinking--this is what my religion is really teaching will happen to everyone? He also commented on the reality of waking up to see everyone in the neighborhood slaughered dead on the ground. Of course then as JWs we got to be a witness of all those birds of the heavens coming down and picking the flesh off of the bones of the dead ones. And, we were depicted as being happy about all of this? So what was that about? Are JWs suddenly turned into feelingless inhuman robots after the big A? Did we suddenly forget about all the non-JWs we had affection for? During the final part of my JW days ,when I hadn't been to a meeting in a while, a sister called me up one morning and woke me out of a sound sleep (to encourage me?). She told me that she admired how I held up under the pressure and didn't know how I could handle the idea of knowing my family would be killed at the big A (my hubby and daughter) and how if she was in my situation she would'nt be able to handle it and would have to be on antidepressants for sure. Well, she was on antidepressants and was later commited to the hospital when she had a breakdown. She had a lot of non-witness relatives and she worried about them constantly. How sick is that?

Yes that is what the watchtower teaches.

    g01 8/22 p. 10 Traumatic Stress Will End! ***

After describing a worldwide epidemic of trauma and the start of "great tribulation" to follow, note what Jesus said people should do: "Raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near." (Matthew 24:21-31; Luke 21:28) Yes, as world conditions worsen, we can be sure that great tribulation upon this distress-causing system of things will culminate in the end of all wickedness and the ushering in of a righteous new system.?1 John 2:17; Revelation 21:3, 4.

We should not be surprised that our deliverance will come only after wickedness and violence have reached their zenith. God?s judgments in the past against the world of Noah?s day and the vile inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah followed a similar pattern. Those past executions of divine judgment show what will happen in the future.?2 Peter 2:5, 6.

    The

    End of Traumatic Stress

If you suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), you may wonder if your painful memories will ever be laid to rest. Yet, the answer surely is: Yes, they will be! At Isaiah 65:17, Jehovah God declares: "I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart." Although the psychological scars of past trauma may seem permanent, this scripture assures us that someday their power to disturb will be entirely gone.

    g89 10/8 p. 9 War?Coping With the Aftermath ***

?But,? you might say, ?how can it be that for those who have suffered through the trauma of war, another war, Armageddon, is going to be the solution?? Armageddon, God?s war against all evil, will be a war without innocent victims. It will not violate principles of justice and goodness. It will be ?carried on in righteousness,? in which only the wicked will die.?Revelation 19:11; Proverbs 2:20-22.

Armageddon will have no horrible aftereffects, no recurring nightmares or other psychological wounds. God?s new world will fulfill the prophetic picture painted at Isaiah 65:17-19: "The former things will not be called to mind, . . . and no more will there be heard . . . the sound of weeping or the sound of a plaintive cry."

What I learned from most of the pictures in the publications is that the "evil non-witnesses" sure like to wear headbands. So if you want to survive through Armegedon, for god's sake, don't wear a headband damnit.

Anyone else notice that a lot of the bad guys had headbands or was it just me?

I also noticed have bad posture or crouch in fear. All the safe people seem to be just standing there in line.

I figure, Descender, since the free models for the Art Department at Bethel are all clean-cut, a headband was the fastest way to make them look like badboys.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions to this thread. I think the picture I was remembering was the one shown from the "Mans Salvation From Worlds Distress" book (it was an older book, with black/white illustrations, to which color accents had been added.) Special thanks to Wild Thing for the link showing that particular picture.

But some of the other pictures were even creepier than I remembered. Uggh!
