When you were in school, did you dread knocking on a schoolmate?s door?

No, I joined as an adult. But I did knock on a door that apparently belonged to a sister in another congregation, and instead of cutting me short and letting me know she was a witness, she let me go through my presentation and edged me on ... I wanted to punch her out for wasting my time!

I became a witness in the neighborhood I grew up in. I moved back after my stint in the Marines and became a JW. I do remember knocking on a few doors of people I grew up with, some didn't recognize me, others were shocked, as they remember me from my street gang days. In fact the one who introduced me to the Witnesses was a fellows gang member!

I didn't like it either. I remember once calling on a school mates home and his parents were better than I in using the bible(I was only about 8 years old) I came back to the car crying.

yep, every Saturday morning my heart used to sink when we,d receive certain roads to "work".I used to try hide behind the Adult if 1 came to the Door and i perfected the Art of staring at the Pond or whatever else was in the Garden while they went to get Mum or Dad.Funny thing was, i was recognized a few times but never got too much grief.

The very worse time was being dragged out on Xmas Day (cheers Dad!)and a householder went into 1 about us kids missing Xmas. What does Dad do...in his wisdom he asks me to explain why we dont have Christmas and why i dont want to celebrate it!All this to the parent of a Class mate, while he was in the background sniggering with his sister.I was 8.

To be fair to the old Man,he is constantly apologizing for the upbringing and recognizes that the Fundamental approach was a BAD idea.

Interestingly, I hung out with the "Bible" crowd at school, a born-again Baptist, a strict Lutheran, and a Mormon. We had interesting conversations.

Me too. My friends, most of the kids I hung out with, were born-again "Campus Lifers" who engaged in proselytism on campus and I was the JW apologist, and they tried to gently talk to me about religion and even gave me an "apostate" booklet on the Witnesses. The situation was interesting because they felt I was in a cult, and one of our mutual friends was studying with the Witnesses, so it wasn't just me....but that didn't create any friction because we all liked each other and got along real well. However, ideologically, I saw the Campus Lifers as Jesus freaks who grated me with their constant evangelism. Interesting when the shoe's on the other foot.

I hated going door to door when I was a kid. We were taken in service right in our neighbourhood , right to our school mates houses. It was awful.

    RR..

    Whats with the wimp comment.

do you not have any kids and realize how fragile they can be at 8 years old? Just asking,

    ABSOLUTELY!!!

I wasn't the most self-confident kid to begin with, so it was traumatizing knowing that the next door I knocked on could be a schoolmate's.

Thanks for the reminder of how much nicer it is to be out, Elsewhere.....
