Good manners and curse words

Curse words in general don't bother me, if used sparingly. I myself am guilty, blame it on

Irish genetics! I do cringe when I hear God, or Jesus, etc. used profanely (although I am guilty

on rare occasion, usually when I have broken a toe or something horrendous like that)! I also

do NOT care to hear the F word, and I will ask someone to clean up their language if profanity

    is head every other word.

I totally hate when I am in a store, like Walmart, and hear young parents using trash language

while their kids are right there. I feel sorry for those who didn't learn manners, I blame their parents.

Bless your dad for knowing the right way to train a young man!

It's part of being human I think. It's like belching or passing gas....not always appropriate but it sure makes you feel better!

As for me, I've started to pick up a few choice words in other languages...it breaks up the monotony.

The only word I try to avoid is the "C-word", since that one irritates Mrs. O like no other word.

The "C-word"? You mean like a hundred dollar bill, ie: "Er....dear, that fishin' guide only cost a C-note for the whole day"?

Strangely enough, I've still never used the "F" word.
I've used most others, just not that one - LOL.

I don't know if that's a dual-standard, or just that I find it especially offensive.

Me too, Ross. I just can't wrap my tongue around that word. It still shocks me at times. I've said it twice that I can remember, and I was quoting someone but now I just say "F" instead. Not comfortable even quoting it.

I admit to using a few others but am working on it for the sake of the grandchildren and their parents who are also "cutting back".

Thanks for the feed back y-all!

As for the "C" word, I hate that word along with any racial slurs. I don't go there at all.

I have a rather extensive, rich and of'times colorful, vocabulary and will play word games to defuse an otherwise tense situation. When writing it may not be readily apparent because of my inability to spell the majority of the words I know without great effort!

As the Apostle Paul put it, "I can be all things to all people." I can converse intelligently with professionals on their yachts, and I am equally at home swearing up a storm if those damn Yankees are whipping up on my Bos-Soxs! I'm not proud of the ease with which these earthy expressions flow out of my mouth and I am trying to curb the tendency.

As a side note, I have heard just as much cursing from "good standy" JW's in my time as I have anywhere else! Mav

They are very good for emphatic speaking. What's fun is when you are usually very mannerly and you use one at the right time and make people laugh. They laugh at the absurdity.

Personally I don't use it. and really get offended when people use the more vulgar usage, I may use certain foreign slang words, but it's usually in jest, like the universal "ca ca".
