NO I would not accept that response...
They have committed spiritual adultery and did so for 10 years. If any of us showed up and had a 10 year adultery or fornication record we would automatically be df'd.............no questions asked.

I think there will come a time soon when the Society will look back and WISH they had made a response like this, instead of the library card excuse. Also their response that once they realized the language of the requirements to be an NGO changed, they dis associated themselves. It's too late to take it back. The lie is already out there. It's a double whammy. First the joining of the Un, then the lame excuses afterword. Any witness with half a brain could figure out the deceit involved. I told my staunch witness Aunt about this scandal and she came back and told me that she had talked to a brother who is an assistant CO, and she said he hadn't even heard of this scandal and that he would get back to her if there was any validity to it. He confirmed the scandal existed (not referring to it as a scandal of course) and my Aunt asked; "Isn't that hypocritical?" To which he responded; "That just about says it". She told me about this and said even the Apostles made mistakes and were sorry for them. My next question to her will be; "When did the Society EVER apologize for this?" ANYTIME the Society messes up it is called a "refinement." If anyone is ever brought before a Judicial committee for adultery, they should say; "I know I was screwing the neighbors' wife for ten years...but I've made some refinements in my understanding." Good luck with that one.

Uh....NO!!
How many times were we told that there was NEVER ANY REASON to compromise our 'christian integrity'. What if I decided to smoke crack so I could witness to crackheads? I'd be DF'd... What if I chose to pay a hooker to witness to the entire whorehouse? I'd be DF'd..... What if I joined my local men's christian organization so that I could witness to them? I'd be DA'd.....
If their motives were this pure, then why was it secret for 10 years? Why didn't they come out w/ a WT article about how we should be 'joyous' that membership as an NGO was opening the way for the preaching work in formerly closed lands and making life easier on the brothers in those lands?
I'll tell you why. They want $$ and membership. If it meant secretly joining the UN as an NGO, then so be it. There is NO excuse for their allowing themselves to justify something that any 'Joe or Jane Witness' would have been DF'd for in a heartbeat. Can you imagine what would have happened if they found out that a 'brother' was soliciting membership in the UN??? He/she would have been sacrificed on the alter of 'keeping the congregation clean' and we would have seen ten magazine articles and heard 8 assembly talks on 'keeping seperate from the world'. They have never shown mercy to those in the congregation who have violated their 'christian integrity' for 'good' reasons. For instance, the example in "Christian Freedom" of the older brother who took a transfusion to keep himself alive for a few more days so he could see his daughter whom he hadn't seen in years. He was DF'd in the hospital 3 days before he died. And the examples are numerous.
Remember when Jesus said "To him that shows mercy, mercy will be shown?" Well, it works the other way too. To him that shows NO mercy, NO mercy will be shown. They have exhibited their hypocrisy yet again for the 'brothers' to see, yet most of them are still blind.
I am an active JW but without the illusion that this organization is what it claims to be. Yes, the letter would have made me feel better. A letter like this would have to indicate a change (somewhere) in the hearts of the GB. It would have given me hope that major changes in organizational humility, honesty and accepting responsibility were in the making and I would keep in wait for the changes. However, when I read the letter I knew it was not the real thing. Alas, the only thing the organization seems to understand is "WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT".

There is a very logical explanation about why the WTBTS will never admit to a mistake, and ask for forgiveness from its followers. That reason is the whole disfellowshipping /disassociation/shunning doctrine that is part and parcel to the entire existence of this cult. Here is a section of the "announcement" with a different "error" inserted, and from a follower rather than the leadership.
Dear Elder Body,
It has been brought to my attention that certain brothers have had questions regarding my blood transfusion during surgery after a nearly fatal window-washing accident. Rest assured that I NO LONGER consume blood. It was only in my undaunted zeal to proclaim the good news to "All Nations" (as was Jesus' admonition), in these critical last days, that I allowed myself to receive this life saving treatment. It is regrettable that some have been stumbled by this treatment, likening it to desecrating the life force itself. This is NOT THE CASE! Being as I am, an imperfect human, I may have made an error in my thinking on the matter. It was my only hope that this life saving medical treatment might show the nations, and their governments, that Jehovahs Organization is not a harmful 'cult' as false media reports have caused some to believe, but that we are a loving organization with only positive motives. Again, in my zealousness to further the Kingdom preaching work I mistakenly had hoped to extend my life so that I could continue our life saving work. We do well to remember that Jesus was the only perfect person to walk the earth, and as well meaning as we may have been in this matter to expand the work He commissioned, we are confident that our merciful God Jehovah, who sees "all things', would take note of our intentions, and forgive us our "mistakes". It is my hope that this will satisfy any further inquiries into this matter, and that we may move forward in the ministry in glorious praise to our Heavenly Father.
Your Brother,
This is the kind of thing that could easily be used against them in a way that would cause them to lose all control over their masses. It is the real reason they will go so far as to admit that that humans are imperfect and make mistakes, but never as far as admitting an actual mistake.

The governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses has had numerous opportunities
to show manhood, humility and intestinal fortitude.
Their 1975 spin control was almost Adamic, blaming the subservient
flock Jehovah had given them.
Apologies make for good PR even if insincere. The GB's association with
the illusory FDS puts them between a rock and a hard place. They are
not infallible, just never wrong.

Yep that would be pretty lame considering the fact they no doubt had lawyers look at the papers that were signed , I don't think there is anyway they can save face by claiming ignorance . It clearly states that an NGO must support the charter of the UN of which they believe the UN to be a satanic organization and have been shoving that down peoples throat for decades now . You cannot eat from the table of demons and the table of God Yadda yadda ....... It was interesting how they toned down the message to try and comply but I don't see how the UN could accept them as a member because of all the demonization of the UN in the literature .
