The Emptiness
I lay awake in the womb of the night
Darkness, deep, surrounds.
An interplay of dancing lights,
Companions there, beside me.
A silent breeze, it's soft caress,
Wanders o'er my naked chest
Causing ripples of delight
Before it leaves me quite bereft.
It's mother suckles to a tree,
I hear it's joy through window,
And then a distant gull alights
Carried far aside.
The raindrops fall, remind of Spring,
Spilling excess on the ground,
And as the hungry maw of lawn
Opens wide the load is borne.
The distant rumble on the shore,
Auld sea, snoring constant.
And as the house creaks to a halt
I wish for life to fill it.
