  As a bean counter by trade I am pretty much in agreement with Farkel.

  man, Farkel...those are very compelling reasons...

  much moreso than mine...mostly just that i don't like Bush.

  kidding, kidding. i was just thinking that it would place an unnecessarily high level of the tax burden upon the lower half of the earners (that's me...well, more like the lower half of the lower half of the lower half of the...). but like you said, there are ways to get around that.

  : The Federal Income tax didn't come into being until about 1919 or so. We got along nicely before that.
  
  Indeed. The vast majority of income to the US Treasury before income tax came into being came from tariffs on imported goods.
