Writing bad checks on Jehovah's account: the Governing Body

Maybe the GB is like whatever political party is operating in Canada at any given time. Whenever a new government is elected the deficit (or, theoretically, the surplus) that remains from the previous government is passed along. The new government makes political promises based on the projected tax revenues for their term. When they get elected and the previous deficit lands in their laps, they increase taxes or pass along the deficit to the provincial governments, and blame the old government that left the deficit for the increase in taxes.

But, it's always the taxpayer who foots the bills, the current government claims no accountability for the financial crapfest that they've gotten the country into.

Remember the 1975 thing?? Who made all the predictions about 1975 being the "end of 6,000 years of human existence on earth"?? Who published "suggestions" about the end being a matter of "months" away, not "years" or even "decades"?? Who claimed it would be foolish and an utter waste of time for young people in the early to mid-70s to get an education or put money away for retirement when the urgency of Armageddon was upon the world??

Then, when 1975 came and went without incident... what did the GB say?? What did they have the complete and utter audacity to say??? They claimed that it was "overzealous" JWs who put too much emphasis on 1975. Fred Franz stood up in front of an audience and shook his finger at them and scoldingly said that Armageddon didn't come in 1975, because "YOU" believed (what we told you) that Armageddon would come then. Yep, pass the bill on for idiocy of the Theocracy? to the Publishers?. Shame on all of "US" for believing the word of a Prophet?.

They haven't really written a bad check. Its more like advertising for a bad check. Kind of like Publishers Clearinghouse. People fill out the form and subscribe to magazines because they WANT the check desparately. Even though they know nobody ever REALLY gets the check.

So the Governing Body has to continually advertise the great promise in order to keep getting subscriptions. Who would sign up for all that crap if they said - In another 2000 years armageddom will come and you will be resurrected and live forever in paradise earth. I don't think it would be the sucessful corporation it is without the proximity of the check.

How do THEY, the Governing Body, explain it?

They explain it by saying that Jehovah "allows" them to be wrong. They use examples (twisted and cherrypicked ones) to show how god in the past "allowed" his people to make mistakes to correct them and dicipline them. What they fail to mention, is that god only abandoned his people in the bible when they screwed up bad in some way. The WTBTS must screw up alot........but Jehover tolerates them cuz they carry bookbags around and others don't.

A Power of Attorney becomes terminated when the party issuing the PofA dies.

So I guess God is dead.

On the other hand, the Pof A is also terminated if the party that is acting on the behalf of the grantor dies.

I am certain it must be the latter. The governing body is dead, they just don't know it yet.

Bubbamar, at the recent recipient of $100 from BCH, I resent the lumping of them in with the FDS! Me thinks they are much more legit than the Freudian Dipstick Slobs.

Good question, particularly if you list the beliefs of the WTS in 1919 when chosen by Himself and those now. They would be disfellowshipped today for what Jesus approved back then.

    Welcome Terry!

Good question, but you have to understand the strong temptation many of us (me too) have to not offer a serious reply. But you're new here, so in the spirit of hospitality I'll take it as it was meant.

...from the Governing Body's POINT OF VIEW... Why does Jehovah allow the governing body to publish prophecy that is wrong?

I think Gumby offered a good answer.

They explain it by saying that Jehovah "allows" them to be wrong. They use examples (twisted and cherrypicked ones) to show how god in the past "allowed" his people to make mistakes to correct them and dicipline them.

I would expand it a bit to point out that not only have they "been wrong": more importantly, THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN RIGHT!

Why has Jehovah never allowed them to be right?

Now they will take issue with that and say, "Whoa, Brother, what about our view of the Hellfire doctrine? What about 1914 or yadda-yadda or adday-adday?"

"Okay," I reply, "then you agree with atheists who also believe there is no Hell. Give me an example of a Watchtower teaching that is unique to the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society that is demonstrably TRUE. There are none. The malleable 1914 doctrine was cobbled into its present form AFTER THE FACT - after their expectation of Armageddon in 1914 proved conclusively WRONG"

How can this be, if their sockpuppet Jehovah is "The Author of Truth"?

So, to answer your "bad check" question in similar terms - Jehovah is bankrupt.
