Blondie's table seems to suggest to me that when a president is a Democrat there is more job growth (with the exception noted under Eisenhower) than when a president is a Republican.

    why is this?

Yes, Americans come and convince our Prime Minister to go to war. That kind of makes it MY business.

How was your day today differnt then then August 12, 2002? Please tell me the huge impact George Bush has made on your life that requires endless comments about him and America. I honestly want to know.

Simon, with all due respect, I do not object to information. I do object to the fact that it seems to have become your sole purpose in life to discredit America, no matter what you have to dig up to accomplish it. I also object to the fact that you seem so bitter & hateful. And I ask you why. I ask you what you hope to accomplish by the behavior.

Actually, I enjoy reading Simon's opinion. I find it much more enjoyable disussing an issue with someone who has a differnt opinion and feels strongly about it. Just as Simon enjoys pointing out America's hypocrasy, I enjoy pointing out his. Want to discuss the economy? Cool with. Who's has the strongest economy...the UK, the US, France or Germany? Like I said before, Bush and Blair are doing much better then their counterparts in Western Europe. Simon reminds me of all the angry europeans in the 1980's who hated Regan and his strong stand toward the Soviets. "Oh, you can't say that" or "Oh why, what will the Soviets think?" I remember all the anti-Regan songs and comments from people like Sting and Bono. All the anti-Regan people protesting his policy in central America. Only now, years later after we won the cold war do people realize what he accomplished. Only now do we see he did the right thing by not letting the Soviets gain a foothold in central America. People will be saying the same thing about America 20 years from now about the war in Iraq and our policy toward Iraq.

To get people's opinions - to discuss things. Surely that is the point of any discussion? Maybe people will think and realise that what they are told is going on isn't quite what is going on.

BTW: You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about me. Why is that?

Reagan won the cold war? Hogwash ... no one won, everyone lost, and what happened in the Soviet Union owed more to Gorbachov than Reagan.

What did Reagan leave us? Trouple in Afghanistan, Iraq and Al Quida, death squads in central America - yes, I can see how his 'accomplishments' would be celebrated ... NOT !

He also presided over the start of massive corporate greed where the rich didn't skim money off the top anymore, they put their noses right in the trough and guzzled all they could.

Fact: the American economy has grown but the average American worker is no better off now than they were 20 or 30 years ago.

This is interesting ... match up the dips and rises with the presidents:

Like father like son eh? ... incompetent. I guess he did outdo his father in how much of everyone elses money he could piss away. What happens when you put someone in charge who has run every company they owned into the ground? They run the economy into the ground. Where will the graph be in another 4 years with him at the helm?

Simon, thats why investors watch the US presidential cycle. You can even lay the FTSE 100 (UK Markets) graph over your graph and the peaks and troughs co-relate over the last 25 years or so. So, anyone want to get into the stock market? You know when to do it. (if you want to take the risk)

    Q. What's the difference between the English and a jet engine?
    A. A jet engine eventually stops whining.

Yes, Regan and Thatcher did win the cold war. When everyone else was worried about how the Soviets would react to a hardened stance, he didn't. I would agree that "won" is a relative term. Instead of spending billions on a stealth fighter, I'd rather see it spent on schools, low-income housing and health care. But the fact is the Soviets wanted to play tug of war with the globe, so we did. If you want to talk about central America and what Regan did and the outcome, just comepare this region on the wolrd to Africa where the Europeans did nothing to promote democracy. I'm not saying central America is paradise, but I'd rather live there then say, Sudan. At least in El Salvador a person can vote and there is some system of justice.

Regarding corporate greed in the 1980's that's more fiction then truth. Yeah, it did exist but was it any differnt in the 70's or 90's or even now? I'd say the 1990's were the worst. Everyone knows that the stock market boom on the late 1990's was based on corporate greed and CEOs putting up "fake" numbers. What did Clinton and Gore (or for that matter John Kerry) do? Nothing. What did they do when Worldcomm screwed over it's stock holders? Nothing. What about when the Enron trouble started brewing? Nothing. What about when greedy CEO's excercised their stock options, made millions while the companies they ran went bust? Nothing. The "yuppie" greed of the 1980's was nothing in comparison to the boardroom greed on the 1990s and the self-proclaimed "champions of the people" (Clintons, Gore, Kerry) did shit about it. Hell, even here in Chicago Hillary Clinton made a $1,000.00 investment in cattle futures and within a few days she made over $100,000.00. Wow! How did she do that? And don't even get me started on the whole Whitewater deal. The Clintons are some of the greedist people on earth.

So what did Clinton do for the "average" American during his 8 years in office? Please tell me.

    Heres one!

Paul Krugman, a very prominent American economist who predicted the Asian crisis, gave this interesting interview a few months ago on Australian TV predicting that the U.S.A. could go the same way Asia did a few years ago and have a huge financial crisis.
