My father-in-law is in the ICU tonight recovering from quadruple bypass surgery. I didn't know what to expect tonight going in to the visitation but it was very, very difficult to see. He seemed to recognize us somewhat and understand that we were there but then drifted back to sleep. He is on a respirator and had his mouth taped shut.

It was really tough to see all the other people in there, too....very sad. One person was in the hospital with their 2 year old grandaughter in ICU while the 20 year old mother had just been killed in an accident yesterday.

I just want to keep all of those people in my thoughts tonight as they are having to watch their loved ones go through horrible things..

To everyone who is suffering through their loved one's pain.

    Hi desib

    (((( Hugs ))) to you .

Your father in law will probably do just fine. The scary part can often be seeing him right after surgery with all the tubes, i v 's etc still in. once those start to come off .. it's a lot easier.

I have a friend that went in for a double by-pass and once they got in there they did 5 by passes. It's been well over a year now and she is extremely active. Cross country ski's, belongs to a hiking club, and paddles in dragon boat races..Kayaking.. does step arobics, Tai Chi... She is one active person since her by-pass surgery. She's in her early 60's.

    Hang in there.

My thoughts are with you desi........

Those poor grandparents, losing their daughter at such a young age and that 2 year old mommy-less baby.......how a heart can ache.

All so sad, desi, I do wish them all well...and thanks for the reality check - there's so much human suffering and loss. And we need to be reminded sometimes how much pain others are enduring.

I just wanted to update this post...

My father-in-law is doing as well as can be expected. We had a little bit of a scare when we were up there earlier today. He told us he thought he was dying. Then he couldn't breath and we had to get a nurse. He is doing okay now but recovery will be very slow. He will be in the ICU for a while.

Very sad news about the little baby I mentioned earlier in this thread. We were told that she didn't make it.

Having spent most of the day at the hospital we saw many other terrible things and heard another story of a couple who's son-in-law was hit in the head with a metal hook at work and has had brain surgery but will not wake up. I felt so bad for them. They have been there every day for 3 weeks.

It really puts things into perspective seeing other people's pain.

Isn't it true, if we put our problems out on the table and saw what other people had, we'd pick up our own again.

Irrev was the hospital this week. He's doing fine. And we found out what was behind some of his other health problems and they are now set right.

Your father in law should just do what he can each day; shouldn't we all, eh?

Glad he's doing a little bit better. Yes, being in ICU or in the hospital at all will make most of us count our blessings TWICE! Please tell your FIL from me that my dad had triple bypass surgery quite a few years ago and it is slow going to get over it but he WILL feel better! Just take it slow, do what the doctor says, and things will be fine. The incision, since they had to saw through his chest, will hurt for quite a while but that too will get better.

    Love,

    Nina
