I'm wrong! And you are right about outsourcing at the beginning. Russell began Zion's Watch Tower magazine in 1879 and began Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society in 1884--but check this out, he never had his own printing presses. So, the printing empire that exists today is not a product of Russell at all. Mea culpa. According to the official website of Jehovah's Witnesses, under a heading "Printing facilities expand" we note: "All literature was, at first, printed by commercial firms, then, in 1920, the Witneses produced some literature in rented factory buildings. But from 1927 on, much more literature ws turned out in the eight-story factory building in Brooklyn, New York, owned by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. This has now expanded into other factory buildings and an office complex."

I hope this clears any misconceptions. I certainly don't want to deliberately malign the man (Russell).

This is William Miller, but of course it sounds just like Charley Russell... or even the Judge. These guys love hyperbole. That's the common thread.

wow ken: i was under the impression the wt was printing in house before the 20's . even contracting out their printing work, it would seem they were still making a pretty penny . with all the real estate etc they seamed to be able to buy up till that time. i guess the real increase in knowledge came when rutherfraud figured out he could get jw's to print and run a factory for room and board. (slave labor). now that was truely a revelation $$$$$$ .john

Interestingly, the recent developments in technology and science, though extremely important for the future of mankind, do not impress the WTS very much;-( I wonder why.

Thats right.
But they are urgently recommended to take a look at the millions of new patents laying dormant in the patent archives. If once those many patent rights expire, new developments will swamp over many new-economy-branches, and will change all life on earth in way nobody does imagine in the very moment. For instance, look at stem cells research. Or research on cloning technology. The entire genetic technology branch is nearly paralysed by an inflation of patent rights. There are TOO MUCH PATENTS. The entire field of "epigenetics", the key to obtain ever-lasting youth, is totally PUZZLED with patents.
Similar concern patent problems impact other branches, e.g. software technologies. The WTS has go no mere idea what is going on in that matter. If some JW, as an insider in this matter, would go to write a letter to the WTS, they only would shake their heads. Thats the fact..E.
