My goofy cat Kato...

I have this cat. He is part siamese. His name is Kato. We live together in my mobile home. He is a silly cat.

I buy him toys... and he likes to play a lot. When I get kids' meals, I always try to get toys that he can play with. Balls and such. (He doesn't like cars.)

Anyway... I also 'invent' toys for him. I think he likes those the best.

One time, I took my old broken floor fan that I had saved - and was using the stand for a hat rack - and lodged his 'feather-on-a-stick' toy into the motor bit. He loved playing with that toy a lot! (He finally tore off the feathers... I dunno where they went.)

I then got to looking around... and took a couple of 12-inch ribbons - and tied them to a couple of the air-conditioning vents that are on the floor. He REALLY likes those. He will sit next to one of the vents... in anticipation of the A/C kicking on - so the ribbon will fly and flutter - and he can play with it.

I bought a laser pointer one time... and would make the red dot 'fly' across the floor, and up the far wall. (Sorta like 'ghosts' to JWs, I suppose.) He really likes the 'red dot', and would chase it everywhere, jumping up the wall to try to get it. He didn't know it was me doing it - at first... but then made the 'connection', and would look right at me - as if to say... "Well... make it glow! I wanna chase it!"

Last week - I went to a yard sale. I looked around a bit... nothing interesting... but wait! What's this? There on a table was a black rubber rat. Looked like some sort of Halloween prank toy. I picked it up, and squeezed it... it squeeked! Awesome!

"How much for this?" I asked the lady.

    "One dollar." she replied.

    I winced, but bought it.

You should see Kato when I play with it. I will 'animate' it on the floor... moving it... and squeeking it, as it hops about on the floor. He is not sure what it is... it _looks_ real... but he is also curious. He's not afraid of it... just curious as to what it is that is making that funny noise. (Hold it STILL, you stupid human!)

I have had more fun with this toy... I laugh a lot... so he _knows_ it's a joke. I think he goes along with it - just to make me happy... silly cat. *shakes head*

It's nice to read about your playful kitten Kato, Jim.

We are having a super-dee-douperdee time with our kitten, too. He's such a source of amusement even better than watching T.V. .. lol

My cat (that's him in my profile) shows total disinterest in any shop bought cat toys. He also loves playing with my laser pointer, and the beam from a focused Maglite. His favorite toy is a pheasant tail feather. It never ceases to amuse. My mum's and my aunty's cats have both been given a couple of tail feathers too, and they seem to have as much fun with them as my feline idiot does.

His other obsession is small plastic bags, the sort you get screws or small components packaged in. He will steal any he can find, and play with them on his own. A tablespoon of catnip in a small plastic bag is just about the most exciting thing in his universe.

Have you any pictures of Kato? I'd love to see him, he sounds like a real character.

One of my cats (I have two) is in love with a piece of string. It hangs from a door handle. If we have visitors, we like to remove it (its all frayed and grimy looking) - you want to hear her cry! She walks to the door and wails at the top of her lungs till you replace the string.

    Cute.

Is your cat named Kato after the Pink Panther movie's Kato (the one who was Inspector Clousseau's valet and always tried to surprise attack him upon arrival home?)

that character cracked me up. "Not NOW, Kato!"

    Bisous,

"Is your cat named Kato after the Pink Panther movie's Kato "

Why, yes... as a matter of fact he is. The reason is that when I first got him, he was hiding from me - under my desk, if I recall correctly, and when I came into the room, he jumped out at me with that sort of 'Aha!' pounce.

He is now about 1-1/2 years old, and he still does it. When I finish with my morning shower, and he knows that I am about to leave the bathroom and head down the hall to my bedroom, he skeedaddles ahead of me and disappears. He is in 'hiding' behind something in the living room... (I can see him - I just pretend I don't).

I come walking down the hall - playing along - doing the 'unaware dufus' bit... "doop-doop-dee-doo" *singing*

All of a sudden - from NOwhere! out jumps Kato - full 'attack' posture - on hind legs - paws open to grab my leg as I walk by! (He uses only paws - not claws)

I will show mock-surprise, jump - and flee from him - he in 'hot pursuit'.

It's part of a game that he never tires of.

So - I guess to answer your question - "Yes. He is named after the Kato from Pink Panther."

(I even call him in the 'Inspector Cleauseu' voice... "Kaaaaato... where are you?" *hands in karate stance - looking cautiously around corner*)

    Regards,

Oh, that Kato. I assumed it was named after Kato Kaelen - OJ Simpson's roommate. After all, he is your roommate, he doesn't pay rent, he looks good, but doesn't do much other than play...

    Kitties are kute! ;)

Mine love to play with the little fuzzy mice and pompom balls.

For my birthday my fiance bought me a toy catapult (from Monty Python's Holy Grail) and it comes with little plastic sheep and cows. I have to say, I was flinging livestock everywhere and those cats had a HOOT! They were getting hit and chasing the little things and just having a blast!

    :)

edited: Oh, I had to add, when I read about the squeak noise and Kato...my male cat loves plastic...to bite apart, to sit on, to lay on. Recently I bought an executive computer chair (faux leather)...and it came in bubble wrap. Well Chester had been laying on it...when I came along and popped one. I've never seen a cat so scared and curious at the same time. Even now, weeks later, he's not quite sure how I do that...or if it will get him...hehe

    Cerise,

Cats are really fun to interact with. I talk to Kato all the time. Mostly, he looks at me like... "Do I run now?"

I will tell him, "I'll get you Kato... and your little dog - too!" *said in old witches' voice*

My daughter - had one of thosae remote controlled cars - and whenever we got a 'new' cat - she would get fresh batteries, and 'chase' the cat with her car. Their reactions varied... but were always priceless, and offered lots of cheap entertainment.

Yup - gotta love 'em. *looks over at Kato, snoozing on the floor*

Kato sounds like a great cat.

When I saw the name, I thought of Kato (Bruce Lee), the Green Hornet's side kick. It would makes sense since Kitty Kato likes to practice his karate moves on ya.
