The other day, I was in my car and this hauntingly poignant song came on the radio.........the feelings it evoked were so deep and exquisite, I just wanted to share the words with you here.........anyone heard this song and care to comment on it?

    Ter

    Streets of Philadelphia
    Bruce Springsteen

    I was bruised and battered
    And I couldn't tell what I felt
    I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window
I didn't know my own face

Oh brother are you gonna leave me wasting away
    On the streets of Philadelphia

I walked the avenue till my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain
    On the streets of Philadelphia

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles just to slip this skin

The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
Or will we leave each other alone like this
    On the streets of Philadelphia

Great song. On the soundtrack from the 'Philadelphia' movie. If you haven't heard the soundtrack I think you would enjoy it.

    Peace - LL :)

This was right around the time when I was still believing what the Witnesses taught, even though I hadn't been at meetings in years. So this line always hit me hard.

I remember "The Last Song" by Elton John came out right around the same time. Two very good and powerful songs about AIDS.

Yesterday you came to lift me up
As light as straw and brittle as a bird
Today I weigh less than a shadow on the wall
Just one more whisper of a voice unheard

    Tomorrow leave the windows open
As fear grows please hold me in your arms
Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger
I need your gentle hands to keep me calm

    `Cause I never thought I'd lose
    I only thought I'd win
    I never dreamed I'd feel
    This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
    I never thought you'd come
    I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son

Things we never said come together
The hidden truth no longer haunting me
Tonight we touched on the things that were never spoken
That kind of understanding sets me free

It's become a popular sport of people (usually on the young side of generationX) more interested in what the crowd thinks than what is, to make light of Bruce Springsteen's talent. I just have to laugh, especially after listening to a song like Streets of Philidelphia. This song is amazing standing on it's own, but juxtaposed with the movie, it is perfection.

It's one thing to not care for a particular artist or style of music but to laugh off someone as talented as Springsteen is just plain ignorance. I've noticed people my age and younger who make fun of his looks, his style, his music. I don't get it, the guy is a genius. I rank him right up there with Dylan. You don't have to like Dylan to appreciate his talent and impact on the world of music. The same with Springsteen.

If anyone is just a casual fan of Springsteen, splurge and go see him in concert. It'll be one of the best shows you'll ever see.

Yep. Listen to the album "The Rising" and you'll relive 9/11 all over again. But he also writes some very uplifting songs and some great rocking road trip songs. They just get lost in the others because he really does have a knack for expressing sorrow and depression in words and music.

The Boss , Bruce Springsteen... Is the boss because he is an awsome talent and the millions of us who recognize that fact will carry his torch forever

His songs are poignant, often misunderstood by those who do not listen hard enough, eg, "Born In The U S A " ... To keep on thread, "Streets of Philadelphia" is indeed beautiful and it was brave to score a film about aids at the time.

I see he took a bit of stick on Foxnews this week about his comments, perhaps it is fashionable to knock Springsteen

Roy, while I do appreciate what you said, and can certainly personally say I understand the reasons for saying it, I also have learned not to run away from these experiences of being touched by words and music..........in my opinion, they help us to tap into those places inside us that need healing. I think that was why I was so moved by his song, because I could soooo identify with the emotions. It takes a very special "artist" to be able to reach a person's heart. The Boss rocks, in my opinion. Thank God/dess that we have artists in this world!
