whenever people bug me about my facial hair (just a goatie, kept really neat and clean) i always say, "what's the difference whether im here or in england... mind your own business." the reason i say that is because i was always told that it's okay to have a beard in england. brothers dont get their balls busted for facial hair there. is that true? enlighten me!

Beards are OK in Europe, they are to be "well-kept/trimmed/whatever the word". But there are not many elders with beards around .....
It varies from congregation to congregation. And they weren't permitted on the Dublin Bethel construction site.
I know of a few elders with facial hair/beards in the UK.
Beards are for the devil. God fearing people shave.
There was a lot of variation, but generally they were frowned on. It was very likely to detract from your career progression, especially with regard to giving talks in other congregations and on the Assembly program.
That's one reason the other Elders nearly did their fruit the morning I DA'ed. How could they let someone on the platform with two weeks beard growth? Allegedly one of the small kids (astute, as they are) asked her parents "Did he grow a beard because he was leaving?".

It depends on whether the local Thought Police (body of Elders) has a long-standing member with a beard, or someone who wants a beard.
Then it is okay.
In other areas Jehobah's Holey spigot bounces of facial hair, or something.
I see this as a good thing. If you could actually show that religious people were any less likely to be self-serving hypocrites you might be able to show religion was worth the effort. But human nature is nice and consistant.
Beards aren't forbidden in the US you just won't have any privileges (if you consider all that horse crap to be a privilege)
I attended the KH in Fulham Road in 1987 and several of the elders had beards. Blew me away!
