It's great if you like toxic nuclear waste! Since you'd be up-river from me, you'd have the advantage of "looking down on me"! Actually, the place is a pretty desolate site with track houses galor. Still its not too far to more scenic spots..

I live near there. Yes, we have nuclear waste that they're trying to clean up. So far it hasn't reached the river or underground water though. :-P

This area has great weather (sunny 300+ days per year), the strongest economy in the state, and isn't over-crowded. It may take a while for it to grow on you though.

More info: Richland is part of the "Tri-Cities"... Kennewick and Pasco are right next to it. Population of the three cities is around 150,000.

Here are some web sites for the cities:

    Richland
    Kennewick
    Tri-Cities

We are about 3 hours from Seattle.

    Thanks drwtsn32,

Actually, my wife is being asked to go there with Bechtel, who is cleaning up the waste. Problem is, it's a permanemt position. She has been doing per diem for a few years now and we like it.

Any idea how the construction jobs are there? I am a journeyman bricklayer.

    Thanks for the info!

    Bryan,

Well..they're putting up houses and commercial buildings like crazy, but I am not in the construction field so I have no idea what kind of jobs are available. You might try checking the classified section of our local paper:

Bryan, although the Tri-Cities was not my cup of tea (I like the green here on the West Side), most of the people that live there LOVE it. I lived there 23 years and never got the bug, but everyone I ever talked to would say how much they loved it. One of the reasons, its sunny like 325 days of the year. The old tract housing in Richland is pretty much confined to one area, there are plenty of very nice places in Richland, in fact Richland has the rep in the Tri-Cities of being where the snobby people live. (the haves, vs the have nots.)

My suggestion is to go there and spend a weekend and see how you like it.

A weekend may not be enough time... lol. It took my wife a couple years but she now loves it. (She moved from Portland, OR.)
