According to Curtis Hayes, the presiding overseer of the Bay Pines Congregation in Seminole, Florida some 2,000 JWs were effected by the recent hurricane; 100 of their homes were destroyed and 700 damaged. "Materials and donations are coming in throughout the country, Hayes said, and homes will be rebuilt or repaired with volunteer help...: He compared it to quick builds of Kingdom Halls.

See "Storm scrambles assembly plans. Hurricane Charley has put a kink in some hotel plans for area Jehovah's Witnesses stated to gather this weekend in Kissimmee."

Yup and I've got good money that says that the JWs are only interested in helping other JWs... any "worldly" person who gets any help will recieve scraps that happen to fall their way.

    Elsewhere-

Not even scraps. My house, 10 miles from the Kissimmee Convention Center was hit by a tree, garage roof taken off, and fence ripped out while I was up in Canada. No Witnesses came door to door to check, but the cops visited the house and 4 "worldly" friends showed up the next day to check out the situation and ended up moving the a/c unit which had been moved by the winds. Not even a scrap, maybe a tract.

If any have their house rebuilt it will not be the style of house the WTS chooses to build. I wonder if they will be signing over their insurance checks to the WTS like they did in Texas?

I wonder if they will be rebuilding/repairing any homes of non-JWs not married to JWs?

Yes, some from our area went down to help and reported back that the brothers/sisters were "encouraged" to give that money to the WTS.

Well isnt that just swell! I bet its just another way for the WTS to make a buck. Get all those bros and sisters to donate their labor for free and the WTS can run with the insurance money.

This would only happen after every other source of help has been exausted. I am sure they would not mind using up the resources of the (GASP) Red Cross or the Salvation Army first. Any community help....SUCK THEM DRY. Insurance...milk it for all they can get.

THEN...we will help our BROTHERS ONLY...none of those NASTY WORLDY PEOPLE and then lay a guilt trip on them to "contribute" the costs back to the WBTS. After all this is sucking money away from the all important preaching work.

I wonder how the neighbors will feel that all the JWS houses being rebuilt will all resemble Kingdom Halls.
