    Hey

Forgive me for not knowing the appropriate etiquette on these boards...I've been df'd for 8 years now but still searching for friends who really understand how long it takes to get the whole JW thing out of your skin...

Am kinda hoping I can meet some mutual minds on here!

You sound like a friendly bunch

Welcome to the board, Hoofie! You've come to the right place, I think. This forum really helped me a lot when I left the Witnesses (2 years ago), but it was so difficult to leave the mind-set and the guilt feelings that I had to go into therapy for a few months. That convinced me that they are, if not a cult, definitely a high control group. It's very difficult to escape (which is why you'll hear the organization referred to as "the Borg").

Anyway, sit down and stay a spell! Get a nice cup of Typhoo and start reading threads. The "Best of" series is pretty cool if you're into doctrinal issues.

    WELCOME!!!

    Hi!

My name is Sam, Im new here too. Ive been involved with the witnesses off and on for 9 years, never have taken the plunge and only in the last couple weeks have I found all this shocking information about them. I had no idea there were so many others out there like me. I have so many questions. Fell like chatting?

    Welcome aboard, Hoofie!

I've away from the JWs as long as you have. However, it wasn't until two years ago that I was able to set the doctrines free. I still had the thought "what if they're right" lingering in my head.

I was on another message board when someone posted a link to http://www.freeminds.org and I spent days just reading and completely de-programming myself. Knowing the entire truth will help get the JW mindset out of your head.

I wish you well on your recovery!

Wow - you're so friendly - thank you. It really helps to know there are people out there who understand and I'm sure I'll be posting on here regularly if I can - I have to post from work as my home pc is dodgy - so keep the nuggets of wisdom/empathy coming, they're already making a difference!!

I live in the UK. Got into the JW's down South but have since moved North to Sheffield.

It's such a relief to finally have an understanding group of people as a sounding board. I have Christian friends (not JW's) but they just don't get how it's all embedded itself in my brain. I got involved with the JWs when I was 15, so my mind was a blank canvass. Since leaving, I've found it virtually impossible to consider other beliefs, because although I'm not actively pursuing the JW faith it's the only opinion I've ever been taught - which leads me to have doubts about every other religion. Not because I believe that they're all wrong - but because I was TAUGHT not to believe anyone else. It's exhausting. All I want is to get in touch with my spiritual side, but I have to switch it off because my indoctrined brain won't let me think anything other than that which I think I already know.

Does that make ANY sense??!?!?!? I'm sorry if not...lol

    xx
