Are Women The More Natural Carers?

Well, I've checked out on the whole sociological conditioning thing. About how boys play with model cars and guns because they are expected to do so. About how girls like to play with dolls and dress up only because that is how their mothers have conditioned them to behave in that way.

So now, this somewhat battered - and somewhat wiser - Englishman has been cared for by teams of female nurses over the last few weeks as he recovers from a big triple op.

I have to tell you that these teams of nurses have facillitated my recovery in ways that are almost indescribable. Mess, yukk, goo, poo, nothing was too much for any of these ladies who dilligently did everything they could to make me as comfortable as possible. They were wonderful.

The surgeon also was female. Matter of fact I don't think I even saw a male medical person for one particular 3 day stretch.

Maybe women are simply just better carers than men?

My mom suffered with colon cancer for 2 years before dying. My dad was her main caregiver up to the end...the ex airforce commander tough guy turned into one of the most caring nurses anyone could ask for. I think it's in all of us...some just have more of a calling for it.

Nice to see you back Mike and I'm glad you had such excellent care.

Great to see you here again Mike.

Take care now and DONT OVER DO IT. Unless of course you want to see all those female carers again? lol.

    Hope you are recovering well.

The stereotype does tend to be that women are "naturally" more caring. But, I don't know. My husband is sometimes way more thoughtful than me. Also, when my Mother-in-law had surgery to remove a brain tumor, her main nurse was male. He was wonderful. Caring, intuitive, he made my MIL feel like she was his sole patient. Good question though.

E-MAN'S BACK!!! Three cheers for E-man!

    Hi Mike,

Yes, you're probably right that women are the more natural carers. it seems to me that this would be in harmony with humans' biological makeup: women had to give birth, breast-feed the infants, and usually stayed in to care for the family. The man had to be out farming, hunting, building and taking care of the family. Thus, the biology of each is still suited for the roles they've played in the past. Of course, there's a lot of flexibility (lol, except for giving birth and breast-feeding!).

    Hugs,

    Pat

    Yes.

How many men do you know that would get off the sofa and get a woman a beer?

    Case closed.
