If this post is not appropriate for this forum, the mods can remove it.

I have CD copies of the WT library 1999 (qty: 1), and burned copies of the WT library 2001 (qty: 2). I have no interest in them. I doubt most people here do either.

However, that being said, someone may want to use them in their own personal research, or for picking apart the WT doctrine etc, or proving that they change things from print to cd medium. Or for those who use the texts to prove/disprove things, they may find it useful to have it online and easily accessible/transportable to a word processing software.

If you're interested, I'm NOT selling these. I will GIVE them to whoever asks first...and if no one asks, circular file it is!

Depending on where you are, we can negotiate shipping (I have a wedding soon, saving up!) hehe

What are the difference between the two? Do either one have the controversial, discontinued books of forgetten doctrines?

If you are interested in "orphaned" Watchtower books (and a few booklets) you may want to get a copy of the Watchtower Bookshelf CD (WT BS CD) from QUOTES (http://quotes.watchtower.ca/).

The Watchtower Bookshelf CD contains over 6,000 pages from books the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society ? every book from 1942 to 1959. These works are not on the Watchtower Society?s official "Watchtower Library" CD.

No more will you have to search for hard-to-find titles and pay a small fortune for them, only to find that some 4 year old colored the pages with his crayons!

    Just $19.75 + $5.25 Shipping!**

    Fully searchable with color pictures

First, we carefully scanned each of these books. We then used state-of-the-art Optical Character Recognition so that the text could be extracted. Finally, we combined the high-quality scan and the OCR together into Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). The result: the most accurate electronic reproduction, with all of the color of the original books complete with pictures, and with a fully searchable text.

This is better than the official Watchtower Library. How? Firstly, the Watchtower Library CD-ROM does not contain any of these books from the 1940s and 1950s. Secondly, the Watchtower Library is text-only (i.e. no pictures). Thirdly, the search engine on the Watchtower Library is somewhat crippled, and seems to not find many interesting things. But the search abilities on our Watchtower Book Shelf CD-ROM is practically unstoppable: just open the book with Adobe Acrobat and enter your keyword into the search engine. If that word exists anywhere it will be found. At last, decent keyword searching for Watchtower literature!

    What about copyright?
According to the U.S.P.T.O. the copyright for all these books expired and have not been renewed. Therefore, these works are now in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and the Watchtower Book Shelf CD-ROM does not violate copyright law.

    Why start with 1942?
"Why not begin with the releases of 1940, and include the entire decade?" The reason that the decision was made to start with 1942 was primarily that 1942 was the beginning of the "Knorr/Franz" era of Watchtower leadership.

A secondary reason was to avoid duplication of effort: earlier Watchtower publications are available on the "Rutherford's Rainbow" CD and other CDs published commercially by Research Applications International, P.O. Box 710022, San Diego, CA 92171. Most of Charles Taze Russell's works are also available from the Bible Students.

This CD is in no way related to either Research Applications International or the Bible Students.

The purpose of the Watchtower Book Shelf CD-ROM
This distribution is being made for purposes of research, scholarship, teaching, news reporting, commentary or criticism.

    *NOT* the Watchtower Library CD-ROM
Please note that this is not the official Watchtower Library CD-ROM which is covered by copyright and available only directly from the Watchtower Society.

The WT CDs are the ones provided by the WTS for active and in good standing JWs to do their personal reasearch. It has mostly current documents. The difference between 1999 and 2001 is any publication that came out in 2000/2001 is updated as well as a few 'older' publications added (as well as some features).

Like I fool, I kept wondering why they didn't put the older older older publications that weren't readily available on it...and why they wouldn't be a priority for them because with so many new ones in the organization they surely wouldn't have access to those 'precious spiritual truths.' DOH!

In any event, Terry and Ohiocowboy asked for the 2001 and the 1999 one is still up for grabs.

Terry and Ohio, I'll pm you for details.

    CeriseRose,

I hope you don't mind me "stepping on your thread."

I know the difference between the official WT CDs that you are offering and the WT BS CD. I hope no one thought I was indicating that they were similar. They aren't.

The WT BS CD fills an "information gap" for researchers that the Watchtower Society would much prefer continued to exist.

Whenever a thread discusses the official WT CD, I will post information about the WT BS CD because many people are not aware of this resource, and the sales help support the QUOTES website.

Nono..Nathan, I was responding to Dorothy's post to explain that mine were the WT BS things that would have no inherent value or older books to pick apart (now, there are newer books...hehe). You're fine, and your post is more than welcome and makes sense to be included here (although that last phrase I don't think makes sense *runs off to get more coffee*).

And to verify, all my CDs are now GONE. If anyone else has CDs they want to get rid of, feel free to toss your post up too. Or anything else of sale.

I have new(ish) books as well that I intend to get rid of, but not yet. Once I figure it out, I may offer those up too. Still deciding.

    :)

Edit: Oh god, some days I just am scattered...I'm calling it "bride brain." I read your "WT BS CD" and was thinking it was the Official WTS cd like I have, but you gave it the (appropriate) title of being BS (aka bull-crap). I have things bass-ackwards.

WTS official = bad (but inherent value in having it for those who want to expose them)

Nathan's info = good (and fills the gaps)

Edited again because I can't spell. *goes away to lay down*

    Here is a difference,

The "Babylon The Great" (or "Babylon the Grape" as Farkel likes to call it) book USED to be on the WT Libary CD, but no more!

It is not on the 2003 WT-CD.

Only can guess it contains too much "old light" (darkness?) to be included on the newest CD.

I could use a copy of the CD on a cassette tape so I can run it on my Commodore Vic20
