I don't think Jehovah's Witnesses have a monopoly on bad spelling.
You spell just fine and as for me i could careless how people spell, as long as i can read what they are trying to say. I do not judge people on how they spell, i judge on the person they are.
Kls,
Thanks for bringing that point out. I know many people who do not post as much as they like to because they have difficulty with spelling and grammar. They fear being ridiculed for mistakes. Not everyone had great teaching parents or a teacher who gave a damn about them "getting" the lessons.
As long as I can read the post and understand thier thoughts, feelings, etc. Whom am I to judge ? I am just glad they are here. Directly or indirectly, lurking or otherwise. We are all here to expand our knowledge, to learn and to grow. We are all at different stages and we aren't perfect, so why do we expect perfection from others ? As the saying goes: "He who lives in a glass house should not be throwing stones". There are worse things than badly spelled words and grammar errors. Besides, over the decades language changes.

Wasn't it Henry the VIII, with sinister motive, who finally chained down the English spellings?
I think that was more the work of Samuel Johnson when he published the English Dictionary in 1755. Prior to that there was no universal standard of spelling. Even Shakespeare couldn't spell his name correctly. And he wasn't one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

But!! What is worse are the purposely mis-spelled words - that are then picked up by uneducated folks - and incorporated into general language and spelling.
But JWs are no part of the world!!!
There have been a lot of good points brought out in this thread. I believe I just missed the whole phonics fad that swooped the elementary schools. I don't remember phonics very well, but I do remember learning the rules of spelling and grammar in those Mr. Mugs books.
Generally, I find the spelling on this message board quite good. Whenever a JW arrives here with his feathers ruffled, poor spelling seems to pop out in their post. I guess it could be them focussing more on getting their angry words in their post rather than getting their spelling right.
I also like the point on being cre8ive with spelling. The internet seems to have accelerated this fad.

Well nos, since you failed to bold the "to" which should have been a "too" perhaps the pot shouldn't call the kettle black!

It's not my fault...I suffer from a condition known as syllable palsy. It can be triggered by many things but, in my case it's usually Guinness or Tangueray!

bad spellers of the world-UNTIE!!
Terry,
If somebody farts out loud on purpose when you are in the room with them; they are commenting on how they value you.
So you think that the DO or DON'T value you if they fart in front of you?
If somebody farts out loud on purpose when you are in the room with them; they are commenting on how they value you.
I was thinking the same thing Nancy; personally I only fart in front of very close family and friends - people whom I value very highly.
As for spelling, well, some people are a little too pedantic on this board for my taste. As a teacher I guess I should care, but as long as you can communicate so what? That is the purpose of language, to communicate. If we adequately do that then we have achieved our objective. The human mind is capable of discerning the difference between 'your' and 'you're' according to the context - it sounds the same; people often write how they speak and if you know the difference then you translate; if you don't then it doesn't matter.
I often respond to threads in a state of inebriation (as now) which probably accounts for a lot of typos.
