My mother watches it and has never played golf. She says she likes the scenery.

I think the Europeans play better in the Ryder Cup because they are interested in winning. I think there is a bunker mentality-type mindset. Sort of a chance to "show 'em".
The Americans care more about their uniforms and what caps they're wearing. They just don't care and it shows in their play. I think if the Americans took it as seriously as the Europeans the results would be different, but the players are much like the viewers. Most people just don't care about the Ryder Cup.
Besides it's football season now, who cares about anything else!

"all those American flags" are when it was the (huge) USA vs the (tiny) UK
Since it changed to include European players it has been a lot more even - there is only one game in it in fact.
