Recently, there has been a PBS show on the flip-flop of the magnetic field in the earth. That the earth's core is really a dynamo and periodically slows and stops spinning just to start up again. Scientists have shown that this has happened several times in earth's history, and may be preparing to do so again. One of the symptoms a weakening of gravity in general, and various spots on the globe where it is even weaker. The show points to the possibility that the earth is getting ready to do a flip. Scary prospect as our magnetic field is what keeps the solar winds from damaging the planet, and us.
No, Kevan's question is: Of course magnetic compases will point S instead of N, but what about GPS? And my question is: If our gravity is further weakend, will the GPS and all other satelites remain in their orbits?
