Awesome, Morris. Few big papers do their own research these days. It is cheaper and faster to quote others who have done the legwork. If you have an article that sparks a lot of interest, others may quote you and you could end up with a lot more exposure.
Hmmmm, I could even see the JW's quoting your magazine to support THEIR position.
Uh, um, by the way, do you take new author's work? Do you have a spec sheet for your requirements?
Definitely take submissions. I have a revolving door place for anyone in the world.
800 word range is best. Really looking for unique voices. I receive scores of submissions so I have a lot to pick from but you just never know what might catch my eye.
The story is now done:
Blood: Cure or cure?
We (a copy editor, lawyer, myself and the writer) worked on this cover story more than on all the other articles in the magazine combined.
This is one time where the issues of conscience - this freedome we claim, how does it play in life and death today? - must be dealt with without sensationalism, prejudice, bias. Time and again, I went back to the writer and said, "No, you must remove yourself from the story."
I also wrote an editorial on faith that begins this themed October issue where I'm honest about my experience with faith.
Hopefully one of you in Ontario will be able to pick the issue up! We're hoping the magazine will be distributed next weekend.
Way to go Donald! It's good to see you here again. I'm really glad to hear the magazine is doing well. I hope it takes off at warp speed for you.
Chris
If you could relay the potential debacle that unfolds in the hospital with regard to the WTS's current vague policy, with all it's i diosyncrasies , that would be great. For example, here is what I have posted about what I went through with a JW loved one:
The idiots have a poor JW sign a stupid vague piece of paper which states, no RBC, WBC, Platelets, Plasma. Then when there is trouble the elders rush in while the patient is already incoherent with some other vague form hot off the press that says oh yeah, fractions of these are okay if the patient checks this box. then comes the major crisis while the elders are in bed sleeping and the doctors are like, what the heck do they mean by "fractions"? Is autotransfusion of the patient's own blood an option? Could we have tried hemodilution? All we know is that it says no RBC, WBC Platelets or Plasma on this form the patient actually signed. Then the elders finally arive and give the doc some dumb bubble-jet printed Watchtower question and answer article to answer some life-and-death healthcare questions while someone is calling Watchtower HQ and the patient is dying.
Well this of my mag Q on the Blood issue comes out tonight..I'll have copies in Toronto on Church St. this Saturday.
ie. locations: Woody's, Second Cup, Zelda's Restaurant, 501, 519 Community Centre
Hi Donald,
Are you able to post the finished article here as well?
Regards,
Ken
AWSOME ACHEIVEMENT!
