""I believe the Catholic Church was formed from the desciples of Christ. They are the earliest Christian Church and found it's beginnings with Christ. How direct it is, I don't know. But if anyone can make a claim even somewhat close to that, it could only be the Catholics.
Am I wrong? ""
Nope.
While I am no longer a JW I still feel that the "reasoning" book was on of the best books ever published by the JW's. Many born-again christians have tried to copy this book with their ex-jw books. Ron Rhodes blantantly "stoled" the name "reasoning from the scriptures" and printed his own serious of books. Now talk about being christ-like. If the JW's had did something like this born-agains would be shouting from the rooftops that JW leaders were thieves and plagerists. But when born-agains do it is ok. No matter what crimes the born-agains christians do other born-agains see nothing wrong with it but the minute the JW's, or Mormons or other "so called cults" as born-agains( love to call anyone that don't agree with their interpretation of the bible) they scream "cult", "cult". Since I have been out of the JW's and can see both sides of the coin I think that JW's and born-again christians are two of a kind. Both judgemental, arrogant know-it alls that think they have a monopoly on the truth. If this is what a person must do to get saved go to the JW's or Born-Agains then I will go to the Atheist.
I don't see any similarity between the early churches of christianity and the catholic church . The pope thinks he is the apostle peter or an apostle when it's clear there were only 12 excluding judas who was rejected after his betrayal and suicide. Not even mathias was considered an apostle after the apostles selected him as there are no records of him after his selection . The catholic church started in the 11t h century not in the 1st century . I agree that jesus was a jew and practiced the mosiac law , christianity was a name later selected by the apostles after jesus ascended to heaven .

I've been a Catholic all my life, although I was actively away from the religion for about 25 years because of choice. I just wasn't interested for part of my life; I still believed in God, but just wasn't interested. I became reaquainted about 15 years ago and feel very comfortable now. I have a very calm and deeply pleasing feeling and understanding about what I have to do be be save and live eternally with our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, by the way, during the time that I chose to be away from the church I wasn't shunned or ostrasized. My Catholic friends were still my Catholic friends, my family still loved me and talked to me, and priest that I knew, whom I questioned on many points of Catholic doctrine, still talked to me and was one of my best friends. It sounds like you are JW at heart but have perhaps seen though their deceptive doctinal tunnel vision they espouse and are looking for an alternative. Maybe not necessarily a reliegion, but a belief that will be able to substitute for the JW foolery you've been subject to. You mention becoming an atheist. Remember, philisophically speaking, athesist believe in something, they have to. If a atheist says he or she does not believe in God, just by saying this is acknowledging that something does exist not to believe in; some higher authority; some other God? I have read, as many folks have, many articles about JW's who have finally decided they've had enough of the JW lies and deceptions, and left, only to be more confused upon being free of the "Society", and rejecting religion, as a whole, altogether, similar to what it appears you have done. Jesus has a plan for us all I believe and expects us to do the best that we can during our short time on earth. I think there are your dynamic Mother Theresa personnalities who do great work in spreading the word of God, and there are those who may just be able to visit a elderly home once a month on a Sunday afternoon to chat. Each effort I believe, in the eyes of God, is noteworthy.
I blabbered on here, sorry.
Take care, Hondo
I don't think you have to be a catholic or a j-dub to believe in a creator or jesus christ . I think the smartest thing a j-dub ever told me was "why don't you start your own religion?" Ever since I've been using my own discernment on things istead of having some organization tell me what to believe and make demands on my resources without ever so much as a thank you . Or even a we love you or peace be with you , instead all you get are criticism and a your not meeting our exspectations , well how about a God bless you every once in a friggen while ( oh yeah that's right the pagans or some other cult religious freak said it ) so we can't ......
Religion sucks .......
Heathen,
And yet Paul is called an apostle and he was not one of the 12.
The disciples were first called "Christian" at Antioch. (Acts 11:26). It is not clear who named them. It could have been Paul or Barnabas or the church there. Or maybe they were called "Christians" by outsiders altogether. But nowhere does it say that the 12 apostles gave them that name.
As to the Catholic church coming into existence in the 11th century. I would like to hear more about that.
Even I am double checking when the church actually took the name catholic . The first churches were just simply chistian congregations . Of course I'm finding sites where the catholic church is claiming the apostle peter was the first pope . LMAO I did find out that there is a movie about constantine coming out that should be pretty interesting . As for the name christian the scripture in acts you quoted can support that the apostles ordained the name christian . All divine providences were subjected to them for approval . The apostle Paul is famous for correcting error in the church . IMO
Heathen... the term "catholic" actually just means "universal", in both Latin and Greek. So the church considered itself "catholic" as soon as it believed that it was a single, global united entity.
That doesn't necesssarily mean that the modern-day Catholic Church is the theological successor of the original church, of course. But the Roman Catholics are technically correct when they say that the original church was "catholic."

Euphemism--- None of that really helped . There had to be a time when this church patented the name catholic . Their belief that they are deciples and apostles and they are universal is not what I'm looking for . I didn't see anything under the constantine byzantine empires that singled out a date . Constantine is always given credit for the appearance of the catholic church so that would make it 4 century instead of 11th but I'm looking for documentation of a date where the church established itself as the catholic church not some belief that they are the original church of which you couldn't force me to believe.
