Preston....Jehovah doesn't appear once in the book of Esther, yet this book is in the Hebrew Scriptures.

I'm still on his Christmas card list.... If he wants me he knows where to find me. Besides I hear he's pissed at the WTBTS for putting the moves on the UN whore and shoving his King and our Redemer, Jesus Christ out of the big picture at the home office in Brooklyn NY. Compared to that I figure I am safe... YHWY has bigger fish to fry than me.

    Lady Lee,
I personally have no "fear" of using/not using the word Jehovah, but I try to use it/not use it in appropriate circumstances. For example, on here, I tend to discredit the name more freely and without any fear of repercussions. However, if I am speaking to a JW, I will try to throw in God more than Jehovah, but I will still say the name, otherwise the buggers won't listen to a thing I say, right?

    Everything in balance.

i think "outbutnotdown" phrased it best... most of us have friends and/or family in the WTBTS still, and we want them to see the "new light" that we have seen... we may not be viewed as apostates to these friends and family (yet), but we still want to get our message across to them in a nice and polite way... with this in mind, it would probably be more effective to use their anglocised version of the Hebrew Divine Name. but for those of us who have become christian and really view God as our father, it would be border-line offensive to use it in reference to God. i wouldnt disrespect my own father that much, as to call him by his first name.

That's an interesting point. I've never thought of it that way. Thank you.

I think of Jehovah the same way I think of Mars, Thor or the easter bunny. They are all the same to me. I even had mighty Thor kick his ass in a thread one time.

I know if there is a God that created everything he wouldn't be a petty as Jehovah,,and go around killing people just to show how stong he is,, or have people destroyed for not beliveing in him (without faith it is impossible to please him). A God that is so intelligent that he can create this universe,,but who winds up getting really pissed at people with far less intelligence makes about as much sense as me killing all the ants on this planet because they fail to belive in me.

Avishai, I do have a lovely lemon bar recipe I will post later (when I find the darn thing) and since Jehovah didn't make the recipe...well, unfortunately the absence of his name makes it far less christian but that's all right with me....

    JEHOVAHJEHOVAHJEHOVAH!

That's a quote from my favorite Monty Python film, "The Life of Brian". The scene where a fellow was about to be stoned for uttering the "divine" name.

Funny, in retrospect, that silly film may have planted seeds that helped me to abandon superstition later on.

Thanks Lady Lee for bringing this up.

I have no fear about using "Jehovah" negatively or otherwise. I do have a policy for writing about God (especially on JWD): I never use "He" or "She" when discussing God (does anyone actually believe God has a penis?) and I only use "Jehovah" when referring to the god of JWs.

"Jehovah" is simply a bastardized common name for a Jewish god. A native Jew couldn't say a proper "J" sound if he wanted to.

It is also a clique trigger capitalized by Rutherford to further alienate his cult from normal society.

So Jehovah, since the only one who is watching out for you is the web-shmuck at Bethel assigned to monitor JWD, who is worshipping who right now?

Ditto. Jehovah, to me, is only a name of a false diety that is worshiped by the Dubs and other christian groups. On occasion I refer to "he" (note it's not capped) in reference to jehovah, but when I refer to the god of my own understanding I refer to (He, She, It, They) as I believe any refernce to god within our tiny brains' understanding falls so far short of reality.

About the only time I had problems with Jehovah "getting me" was when I went to my first AA meeting in the basement of a baptist church. I just KNEW I was going to be struck down. And then they PRAYED! And I was so embarrased that I couldn't recite the Lord's Prayer.

Well, I'm still here. I didn't get struck down. I've learned the Lord's Prayer. And I don't believe in Jehovah. However, I do believe in a solitary god. Core and source of the universe as we and science understands it, and much, much more.

    Hugs on y'alls journeys

    Brenda
