This has a different implication if you consider mental masturbation from the perspective of egoic identification. Just because you like to use the mind and think and wonder about some things doesn't mean masturbation in this case, what does imply mental masturbation of this type would be if you take yourself too seriously. And someone who is looking down on the kind of MM you speak of might be guilty of MM of the type I'm speaking of, because they are essentially saying "I'm too sexy for mental masturbation." Another sign of such mental masturbation would be you are not aware you are doing it, because you are too busy making the point about mental masturbation itself or whatever else - too caught up in the heat of the moment as it were.
