Besides, how old are the guys singing these songs?

Well, Ringo Starr ( that longhaired hippy lookin perverted bastard), sang "your 16"....when he was in his 40's or 50's.

Niel sedaka sang "Happy Birthday Sweet 16" when he was in his 20's, Dr.Hook sang "she was only 16" when he was an old bastard, and "16 candles" .......the whole band was in their late 20's or early 30's.

    Dang cradle robbers!

but can ride a bike and do pretty much everything else.

Oh really? Well, they certainly are capable of doing everything else at 16, but if the guy is over 18....another story.

This isn't totally accurate. In some states, once the female has reached the age of consent (16 in most states) the guy can be any age to be with her. Of course there are several exceptions. For example, in Delaware the age of sexual consent is 16 for adults who are under 30 years of age.

Also, in some states, the age for homosexual sex is as low as 13, even when heterosexual sex in the same state is higher. This confuses me..

    Really? Times they are a'changin.

Steve and I figure we will get big locks for Zoe's doors and windows and buy some guns whenshe approaches 16.

Even so, don't you think people would be turned off these days by anyone over say 25 singing about a sixteen year old girl?

BTW, I was almost 17 when I met Steve...he was 26, but I don't recall him singing about me back then.

And how about the Beatles' When I Saw Her Standing There? Well she was just seventeen...you know what I mean...and the way she looked was way beyond compare...yadayadayada....
