I take care of a very special lady several days a week. Her name is Kristy. She's mid-30's, looks like Julia Roberts (!!!), with a gorgeous smile and has a wonderful sweetness and a dauntless spirit that's difficult to match.

Kristy was discovered to have Multiple Sclerosis approx. 10 yrs ago, then when her symptoms began progressing relatively fast some years after that and she began losing her ability to be physically mobile, the docs determined that she also has CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy), a disease which mimics MS, but at an accelerated rate and is actually treatable.

Kristy had begun taking the treatments for CIDP and was progressing very nicely toward autonomy once again when she received another blow. She was found to have cancer. She's undergone the radiation and chemo for the cancer and the docs recently have declared her "cured" from it, but at the expense of the CIDP treatments, which are to commence in the near future once again.

Right now, Kristy is dealing with nausea, and problems with her blood and nutritional intake, etc. that are worrying her and keeping her depressed and worried. The docs are trying to get her back on the road to recovery from the CIDP and working on these problems as they crop up, but.....

Some of yall may realize that all these crises together over the years have somewhat knocked the wind out Kristy's sails, per se.

Do any of yall have any encouraging words or experiences yall'd like to share with Kristy? If so, I plan to print out your responses to Kristy and take her a whole slew of encouragement and love when I see her this next Thursday.

    Thanks,

    Frannie

I have no experience in this, but I would tell her don't give up & take it one day at a time!

P.S. She's lucky to have a friend like you, Frannie!

When I get sick I am a big baby. I admire Kristy for her tenacity and strength. Sometimes words are not enough. I fear words may seem trite to the person who is living with the reality every day. For Kristy, a picture and a link:

The courage God has taught me is tiger-mother-love. My boy is diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and in his twenties became addicted to crack cocaine. He lives in the inner city, and has regular run-ins with the police who charge him with intoxication. Listening to his rambling speech I cannot tell where the drugs end and the schizophrenia starts. In our free society, we cannot forcibly treat the mentally ill unless they are a danger to themselves or others. I mother-rage at a society that binds my caring hands. Sometimes the grief is more than I can bear.

    But.

I am the mother that God made for my son. I love, I comfort, I help when I can.

Courage onwards, Kristy. Health is in sight!

Frannie....this is sweet of you to think of your friend and to put forth efforts to help her. Perhaps you could show her the thread about Dansk and his ways of overcoming these obstacles in life.

Here's a big hug to Kristy....and a dozen of roses.

Thank you for making this thread Frannie. Since there is no immediate rush to type something I am going to spend a little time to hopefully provide some words of comfort and encouragement for Kristy. This is type of thing is not my forte but I am so incredibly impressed that you would take time to share this with us and seek out the help of others solely to bring some comfort and peace to this woman. I may not come up with anything worthwhile but you have surely inspired to me to damn well give a a try. There are so many caring people on this site that you may very well get some good material.

Kristy, sweetie, you hang in there! Give yourself credit for the strength and courage in dealing with everything you've been thru, and give yourself permission to take a breather and be at peace with it all! Sending you lots and lots of loving, positive energy!

    Hugs and Kisses,

    Terri

I don't know Kristy personally so I wouldn't know what to say in that sense, but just knowing the experience she has gone through I can say this: You have a gift in the illness, the gift of appreciation for life. This is something many people never even have in their entire lifetime, but knowing how tender it can be you will enjoy life much more.

Good idea, (((Gumbo)))!!! Will print Dansk's thread out to go with this one for Kristy.

Happy Guy, SunnyGal, Markf/Cali, everyone posting here on JWD, yall are so wonderfully kind to help with this. Your responses are already bringin' tears to my eyes for the sweetness of your spirits.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

    Frannie
