Naaahh, unless you want to count the 10,000 American fathers, grandfathers, brothers, and uncles buried at the American cementary alone at Normandy. But what the hay..... it wasn't OUR war, why should we have even gone over there.

    It's your dumb attitude.

You don't hear us lauding it all the time about how YOU owe US for defending you from the nazi threat do you? No ... because we have some sense. It was everyone in it together. No one saved anyone. We all did our part.

If anything we shoudl be thanking the soviets but then your comic-book society decided to make them the enemy didn't they?

GAWD.... talk about ATTITUDE DUDE. First of all I never Lord anything over anyone. What the older generation did is history, and that generation is soon to be gone. YES, for those that KNOW history the Brits took it on the chin and were a marvelous example of what a determine people can do under insurmountable odds. From Dunkirk, to the Battle of Britain, the magnificent military campaigns in Africa to the beaches of Normandy their sacrifices percentage wise in poplulation were greater than the U.S. However, this does not diminish the fact that families here, including mine are missing family members and those that would have been their decendents because they, like the Brits, the Poles, the French and numerous other countries stood up to the EVIL in their time. That being said... to be clear, IMO .... NO ONE OWES ANYONE ANYTHING .... YOU GUYS DO YOUR THING AND WE'LL DO OURS.

GAWD.... a REAL dumb attitude is one that is ALWAYS NEGATIVE !!

    For "dumb attitude" see:

If it was not for the US, you would be Goose Stepping around the Eiffel Tower

    I rest my case.

Rest on it, sit on it, open and close it, I don't care what you do with your CASE. THAT attitude isn't MINE, so don't post it as if I said it. And by the way, that attitude may be prevelent with some on this board, but with the people of know off of the board it's a very miniority attitude..... in fact I never hear it. Like I said... it is history, and along with my father, that generation will all soon be gone, then there will be no one left to remember or CARE! Only people with chips on their shoulders that always want to FIGHT .

Interesting news report, though it has to be noted that the problem of a 24 X 7 News Monster, such as exists in broadcast oriented countries these days, is that it has to be fed regularly come what may. Always best to wait for the facts first.

It does seem at least, that the US has plenty of Smart Bombs, but lacks a few Smart Troops.

:It does seem at least, that the US has plenty of Smart Bombs, but lacks a few Smart Troops.

In the troops defense, Hillary, they could be as smart as John Kerry or you or I, and if their commander's commanders had not given them the job of securing weapons, then those "smart" troops could do very little to prevent the situation we have now.

The failure to make disarming Iraq priority number one, left me gobsmacked.

    Dubla,

its interesting to watch.......bush gets slammed for exaggerating the threat in iraq,

No, Bush did not 'exaggerate' the threat in Iraq. He was completely mistaken about it.

Now, it is true that based on the evidence that he and his advisers fed the world, many people believed that Iraq did indeed hold weapons of mass destruction that could be armed and used within 24 hours, and on that basis agreed with the invasion of Iraq. It may even be true that Bush and advisers whom the world assumed actually knew better the truth than they did, believed the flawed information that they were fed by their operatives.

What needs to be attended to now is the matter of competency to govern. Blair and Bush, whatever their motives, failed at their job of Governing and subsequently caused the deaths of thousands of people. On that basis they should resign and hand the government over.

What would you think of a corporation executive, say the head of the Ford Motor Company, who sanctioned the design of motor vehicle on the advice of his design team that went on to kill thousands of people? Surely the populace had a right to demand his head regardless of his beliefs or motives? As Truman's desk moto read, 'The Buck Stops Here'. Perhaps Mr Bush thought he was talking about dollars rather than responsibility - who knows.

    Six,

Agreed. My focus would always be on the troop commanders as they for better or worse, and generally worse in most conflicts, seem to speak for their troops. As it is, Rumsfeld seems to have about as much clue of desert warfare as the 'Grand 'Ole Duke Of York'.

    Best regards - HS

I think the problem is that many people believe the neo-con lies ... about the threats and also about them wanting to remove the threats.

The reality is that they invented an enemy and now want the weapons and danger to spread so that they can exploit it. They do not care how many people or who dies, their own soldiers or civilians, just so long as they get the instability and fear that cements their own regime.

Wasnt the U.S war?U-boats were sinking Your Boats off the coast of Florida in the early part of the War!America was shitting itself over Hitlers conquests and rapidly expanding axis power! An early example of American propoganda saying"we are so self sacrificing and we only go to War to help others".All the real fighting had been done prior to 1944,but somebody had to come in at the end and take charge of the re-building.Who was that again?Oh yeah,US of A.Dont tell me somebody didnt make out of the Marshall plan.

It was bollocks then and is bollocks in Iraq.

Decent ,genuine non-right wing Americans (LIKE MY FATHER)will understand this view point.

the guy who has so many times in the past posted worries about political threads getting out of hand cant seem to hold his tongue and is breaking the guidelines left and right (do as i say, not as i do simon?). maybe its time to lock a couple of these threads.?. its interesting to see where the hate speech comes from......some people just have a hard time debating the topics with civility.
