It's right here, in the NWT Bible....

Exodus 23:14...."Three times in the year, you are to celebrate a festival to me".

Exodus 23:16...."Also, the festival of harvest of the first ripe fruits of your labors, of what you sow in the field. AND THE FESTIVAL OF INGATHERING AT THE OUTGOING OF THE YEAR", when you gather in your labors from the field".

So, on the third Thursday of November, we celebrate the "Feast of the Ingathering" by dedicating this day to giving thanks to God for the food and all the Blessings we have enjoyed throughout the year.

It's right there in their Bible, so why won't they celebrate it? Isn't that going against the Bible?

    Comments?

So, the month of Abib is November? I'm not trying to call you on this, I really don't know what month that is...I can tell by the scriptures it's in a harvest month so you may really have something here. Still, the Witnesses really try to link up Thanksgiving with the U.S. government. ..but you may have an arguement if it's in the Bible.

I never did understand their hatetred for thanks giving , all it was about anyway was gathering with your neighbors and eating . Then the settlers gave the indians small pox .

under 74<> , The month of Abib is the FIRST festival, called the festival of the unfermented cakes.

The second and third festivals start in verse 16...."ALSO, the festival of the harvest of the first ripe fruits of your labors..(festival number 2)

..."AND the festival of the ingathering, at the OUTGOING of the year".(festival number 3).

Hope I explained it better. Have I got it right?

Thanks Hubert, I think I understand. But wouldn't the "harvest of the first ripe fruits" be around August?

Hubert...not to rain on your turkey day, but ol' Jehover had a different celebration in mind than the one you described as giving thansgiving for the food he gives us and his blessings.

To celebrate this festival, GOD commanded the Israelites to dwell in booths for seven days so that they would remember that He provided shelter and security for their ancestors during their exodus from Egypt. This celebration is also called the festival of "Tabernacles" or "Booths."

You better plan on getting you a tent and camping out for 7 days and making a buncha sacrafices to ol' Jehover while your in your tent too. I'm thinking the Israelites just hated this time of year. I can just hear the kids..."mommy, do we HAVE to live in the tent again for a whole nother week and burn stuff to god all day". The grownups got all depressed cuz this celebration reminded them how they had to eat frost cake off the dang ground till Jehovah gave them dead pheasants to eat......poor bastards!

In our family we have always had a Thanksgiving dinner, even inviting the loyal members. We don't call it Thanksgiving, but we have turkey and all the trimmings. After all, turkeys are on sale this time of year. No one has complained so far. It's a day off work.
